      Job Description

      Department:

The Systems Engineering team is part of the Technology Development department at Guardant Health. Members of our team contribute to the development and commercialization of new diagnostic tests by acting as cross-functional coordinators and technical leads. We interface with representatives from software engineering, laboratory automation, assay science, bioinformatics, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, and more, with the goal of keeping all these disparate functional areas working together seamlessly.

      About the Role:

As an intern on our team, you will be responsible for defining system-wide verification and validation testing of a novel laboratory automation platform in Guardant's Screening division. Time permitting, you may perform or coordinate some studies as well. This project will help us to ensure successful scale-up of our Shield test, while providing you with in-depth experience defining late-development testing of novel medical technology in an FDA regulated product lifecycle. With this role, we’re looking for a candidate who’s comfortable thinking in systems to understand how interacting parts contribute to the functionality of the whole product.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Learn and understand the interactions between integrated subsystems in a complex laboratory automation system, including assay, reagents, software, instrumentation, and consumables.

      • Develop test methods to ensure successful operation of the system, and prepare associated documentation for an FDA regulatory submission.

      • Perform feasibility experiments to evaluate and refine proposed test methods.

      Qualifications

      Essential Qualifications:

      • Advanced BS students, recent BS graduates, or MS students are welcome to apply.

      • 0-1 Years of experience

      • Coursework or experience in a technical discipline (e.g., biomedical engineering, biotechnology, life sciences, or other engineering or science).

      • Excellent communication and collaboration skills - this role will involve coordinating with members of other teams, including other engineering disciplines and scientists.

      • Good writing and documentation skills.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Previous experience or coursework involving integrated systems of electromechanical, software, fluidic, or biochemical subsystems.

      • Comfortable working in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory.
