      Job Summary

      The Systems Engineer is accountable for applying specialized knowledge and expertise in preparing plans for the development of capital projects, completing designs and specifications to meet specific operational requirements, managing projects to procure and implement, and providing assistance for life-cycle management of the systems and equipment related to Simulation for ATS Training. Advises and assists in the development of system enhancements and technology roadmaps for current and next generation of Simulation Systems.

      Job Description

      Key Accountabilities:

      • Assist in system / software / user requirements gathering, documentation and analysis
      • Perform detailed design and implementation changes / enhancements for simulation applications and systems.
      • Participate in projects of varying complexity including documentation of technical requirements, statements of work, engineering briefs and system test scenarios.
      • Responsible for planning, specifying, and evaluating software and systems in support of procurement activities
      • Perform analysis of problem reports and determine root cause, development of work around, recommendations and / or implementation of solutions.
      • Aid in configuration management of Simulation hardware and software; testing and release of Simulation systems field modifications; testing and release of software modifications; assist other systems teams when required.
      • Evaluate vendor supplied systems and software, provide recommendations in support of initial deployment and throughout the lifecycle of the product.

      Job Requirements

      Education:

      • Graduated from a recognized university or college with a degree/certification in Engineering, Computer Sciences/Information Technology, Business Administration, MBA and/or Aviation and at least 5 years related experience.

      Experience:

      • Minimum of 3 years of experience in System Engineering
      • Experience in design, development, procurement, implementation and life-cycle
      • management of electronic systems, software, or integration of systems.
      • Experience in the development of specifications, standards, and / or procedures.
      • Experience in investigating analyzing and resolving life cycle performance issues
      • Experience in facilitation, negotiation, and building collaborative relationships across various departments and stakeholders

      Knowledge:

      • A working knowledge of systems engineering principles and methodologies. This includes knowledge of system requirements analysis, system design methodologies, configuration management, and system validation processes
      • A working knowledge of project management principles and techniques, business practices and decision-making techniques.
      • A working knowledge of operational systems (Windows and LINUX), networking, and communication standards and protocols.
      • Knowledge with scripting languages such as python or shell scripts.
      • Knowledge of requirements management tools, problem tracking tools, configuration management tools and test management tools
      • Knowledge of Virtualization platforms, including VMWare Horizon, VSphere, and ESXi
      • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and working in an agile environment using tools like Microsoft Azure DevOps

      Abilities:

      • Ability to analyze, investigate, evaluate, and implement solutions.
      • Ability to provide advice, guidance, and opinions related to simulation systems.
      • Ability to test and debug software, hardware and systems
      • Ability to write and evaluate specifications, technical reports, proposals, and/or Interface control documents.
      • Ability to work autonomously under minimal supervision and to handle multiple concurrent projects.
      • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to write specification, standards, statements of work and general engineering documents.
      • Ability to work in a team environment.

      Working conditions:

      • This position is based at Ottawa Technical Services Centre but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
      • Travel may be required on occasion.
