      Inside the Role

      This position, within Powertrain Systems Engineering, will be located in Detroit, MI at the heart of Daimler Truck North America powertrain development. As we actively work to advance all heavy-duty propulsion systems into the future, emission compliance remains fundamental to our powertrain development culture. This position will provide critical technical leadership in the area of over-the-road emission control development and validation. Working within a cross-functional team of thermodynamic, aftertreatment system, vehicle testing, data science and regulatory affairs experts, this role will lead all internal & external in-use emission testing activities

      Position offers a starting salary range of $121,500 - $155,500 USD

      Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience

      What You Drive at DTNA
      • Develop, align and execute test plans to ensure all development requirements are met within our heavy-duty powertrain projects. Key stakeholders include Performance & Emissions, ATS, Vehicle Test and Regulatory Affairs.
      • Work closely with Regulatory Affairs to align yearly plans to ensure successful execution of HDIUT requirements.
      • Develop and maintain a comprehensive overview of all required emission & data acquisition equipment, including maintenance and calibration needs.
      • Provide technical leadership to the Powertrain Vehicle Test Center to ensure high quality testing and results.
      • Work closely with our data science teams to ensure that all data are processed accurately and the interpretation of regulations is aligned across all powertrain stakeholders.
      • Maintain a close relationship with relevant powertrain function experts and act as a single point of contact on over-the-road emissions topics. Translate powertrain development needs into clear test requests and align plans with the Powertrain Vehicle Test Center.
      • Technical lead for portable emissions measurement (PEMS) equipment. Understand all aspects of vehicle & DAQ integration, align processes and maintenance plans with E4 lab and suppliers.
      • Demonstrated expertise in vehicle & powertrain data acquisition, mechatronics integration and data management. Provide technical guidance to various data engineering support staff to develop and implement efficient & effective data analytics for immediate test evaluations, troubleshooting and system development.
      • Efficiently analyze and report test results to multiple audiences, from detailed technical deep-dives to high level executive summaries.
      • Provide clear and concise sign-off on each test event that indicates if the test is valid or needs to be repeated, clearly providing direction and justifications.
      • Demonstrated aptitude for complex system troubleshooting.
      • Work to continuously improve our emission testing efficiency and quality, through advanced tools, equipment or processes.
      • Maintain a pulse on future propulsion technologies and provide technical guidance to help apply the principles of diesel emission testing to future products.

      Knowledge You Should Bring

      • Master’s Degree with a focus in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience.
      • Fundamental understanding of heavy-duty powertrains, diesel engine emission control systems and corresponding emission regulations.
      • Demonstrated understanding of powertrain & mechatronics system integration in a vehicle, data acquisition and data analytics expertise.
      • Demonstrated ability to process, analyze and interpret complex systems. Systematic troubleshooting experience.
      • Experience and understanding with CAN architectures and the use of Vector products. Experience with Matlab, Uniplot, Python, PowerBI and/or Tableau.

      Exceptional Candidates Might Have

      • Direct experience with in-use emission testing: test preparations, execution, data processing and reporting.
      • Direct experience working with PEMS equipment.
      • Expertise in data processing tools: Python, Matlab
