      Taste & Wellbeing Plant Operations Director for South Africa

      A Plant Operations Director with a global leader in the creation of Taste & Wellbeing and Fragrance & Beauty, and an integral part of our Taste & Wellbeing South Africa Plant Operations team, and based in Johannesburg - Your future position?

      Our South Africa plant operations site in Tulisa (Johannesburg) was set up in 1956 and is one of our flagship manufacturing sites in the region focussing on Beverages, Snacks, Dairy and other unique ingredients for the Taste & Wellbeing sector, and has about 105 people on the site.

      We are now hiring a ‘Plant Operations Director’ for the site. Based on our Tulisa site and reporting to the Regional Operations Head for South Asia, Middle East, and Africa (SAMEA), you will lead a multi-functional team of about 105 people via 6 direct reports from the Production, Quality, Health & Safety, Maintenance, and Support teams. As an important member of our Local Management Team and the SAMEA Regional Operations Leadership Team, you will also contribute to our local entity's success and aspirations and the wider region.

      You will implement and sustain world-class operations standards for safety, health & environmental protection, manufacturing and supply chain, product quality, food safety and quality management systems, utilities and resource utilisation. You will participate in short and long-term site planning to achieve site and business objectives.

      In this exciting role, you will be responsible for -

      Safeguard the sustainability of the site:
      • Ensure safe and environmentally responsible operations per Givaudan requirements and international best practices.
      • Safeguard the assets under the responsibility.

      Enhanced customer experience:
      • Ensure service levels and reliability of deliveries according to customer requirements and agreed service grid.
      • Engage teams for customer service improvements and liaise with commercial functions to define programmes to improve service and reduce quality complaints.


      Promote operational performance:
      • Implement initiatives and drive continuous improvement to achieve performance objectives and reduce cost/kg.
      • Maintain assets under the responsibility to improve asset performance and reliability.
      • Implement programs to reduce working capital.

      Operations strategy and business planning:
      • Develop and execute the site master plan, 5-year development plan, budget, and annual tactical plan based on operations and business strategy.
      • Develop and approve departmental business plans and budgets.

      People management and development:
      • Create a positive working environment through sound leadership.
      • Manage and enrich the talent pool, including performance management, individual development, mentoring succession planning, career mapping, and gap analysis.

      Promote key projects:
      • Lead LEAN initiatives for the whole site.
      • Responsible for the proper roll-out of the supply chain, quality, and manufacturing excellence initiatives.
      • Ensure all approved CAPEX projects are implemented within the agreed timelines, scope, and budget.

      Your professional profile includes:

      • University degree in Food, Chemical, Science, or Engineering.
      • 8+ years of relevant and diversified work experience in supply chain management, operations excellence, plant maintenance, and site management.
      • Ideally, have exposure to manufacturing or production or industrial setups in the FMCG, Food, Beverage, Flavour, Fragrance, Perfume, Ingredients, Nutraceutical, Pharmaceutical, Cosmetics, or Chemical sectors.
      • 3+ years of a successful leadership track record, preferably in a multinational work environment, with people management experience of at least 2 years in building mid-sized to large and performing diverse teams.
      • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
      • Excellent business and commercial knowledge.
      • Essential to have prior experience managing relationships with labour unions and important government organisations.
      • Have a good appreciation and commitment to high quality and safety standards.
      • A team player and comfortable with diversity.
