      Responsibilities

      Job Summary

      Prepares federal, state and local income and franchise tax returns for Brookdale Senior Living, Inc, and its subsidiaries. Participates in various other analysis and tax projects as required by the organization.

      Essential Functions

    • Maintains the corporate organizational chart and works closely with Legal to track the legal entities within the organization.
    • Prepares legal entity financial statements using general ledgers by Business Unit to be used as the starting point for tax return process.
    • Analyzes tax sensitive GAAP accounts, understands the tax adjustments to be recorded on GAAP financial statements and prepares tax return work papers that support those adjustments.
    • Collaborates with accounting team to understand entries recorded in tax sensitive accounts ensuring that tax adjustments are recorded correctly.
    • Prepares the quarterly and annual tax provision process and prepares work papers provided to external auditors.
    • Completes balance sheet and Income statement tax Account Reconciliations based on established due dates. Researches and resolves reconciling items in a timely manner.
    • Assists with fixed assets software regarding tax lives, methods and conventions and prepares quarterly roll-forward analysis to support the deferred tax positions reported on the GAAP financial statements.
    • Prepares various tax filings including but not limited to estimated tax payments and extensions.
    • Responds to residents, responsible parties, field personnel and other third parties such as lenders and lessors and various government bodies on various tax issues through email and phone providing quality customer service. Elevating issues to senior tax management where appropriate

      Qualifications

      Education and Experience

      • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university required.
      • Zero to two years’ experience preferred.
      • Experience with Corptax Tax Software preferred

      Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special RequirementsCPA, MST, and/or CTP Preferred.

      Management/Decision MakingMakes standard and routine decisions based on detailed guidelines with little independent judgment. Problems are generally solved with clear, detailed guidelines or by reporting them to a supervisor.

      Knowledge and SkillsHas a basic level of a skill and can follow written or verbal instructions. Has basic technical skills to complete a few repetitive and well-defined duties. Has a basic knowledge of the organization in order to answer basic questions. Working knowledge of Excel and Word. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Corptax Tax Software knowledge is a plus.
