      Provides clerical support for the listing and appraisal of individual (non-business) personal property. Assists the public in listing personal property for ad valorem taxes; interprets and applies departmental policies and practices in adjusting valuations; interprets and applies departmental policies and practices in proration of taxes; enters and verifies data into the computer to generate tax bills; maintains situs of personal property; maintains an orderly filing system; scans and archives documents as needed; processes mobile home park report; processes refund/release and supplemental/discovery bills; answers citizen questions; processes/audits homestead, disabled veteran, and circuit breaker exemptions; performs other related work as required.
      • Assist the public in listing personal property for ad valorem taxes.
      • Interpret and apply departmental policies and practices in adjusting valuations.
      • Interpret and apply departmental policies and practices in proration of taxes.
      • Enters and verifies data into the computer to generate tax bills.
      • Maintains situs of personal property (performs change-of-county if needed).
      • Maintain an orderly filing system (refilling documents as needed).
      • Scan and archive documents as needed.
      • Process mobile home park report.
      • Process refund/release and supplemental/discovery bills.
      • Explain and/or convey listing information to the public in person, on the phone or in writing.
      • Process/audit homestead, disabled veteran and circuit breaker exemptions
      • Performs related work as required.

      • Considerable knowledge of the laws, policies and guidelines used in the clerical support of tax listing of non-business properties.
      • Considerable knowledge of the practices, procedures and forms used in the clerical support of tax listing of non-business properties.
      • Working knowledge of mathematics.
      • Working knowledge of grammar and composition.
      • Working knowledge of computers.
      • Some knowledge of personal property appraisal.
      • Some knowledge of the Tax Department and the Machinery Act of North Carolina.
      • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
      • Ability to effectively and appropriately respond to questions and concerns from citizens regarding personal property tax appraisals.
      • Ability to work under moderate supervision.
      • Ability to read and compare words and figures carefully and accurately.
      Minimum Training and Experience
      • Graduation from high school (or equivalent)
      • One year experience in clerical work.
      Special Requirements
      • Successful completion (within two years of employment) of UNC SOG Listing and Assessing and UNC SOG Personal Property Appraisal and Assessment.
