      GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

      The primary purpose of this position is to compile and update cadastral and digital maps based on information from metes and bounds descriptions on recorded deeds, surveyed maps and plats, Department of Transportation maps, orthophoto maps and information provided by property owners.

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

      • Manually updates maps, by performing technical work in the preparation and maintenance of land parcels.
      • Conduct deed research using information obtained in the county Register of Deeds to correctly map land parcels for taxation.
      • Maintain and update digital maps using the county’s CAMA, ParcelSync and ArcGIS software, digitize parcel lines and add descriptive information to digital files on each parcel.
      • Contact with the general public requires a daily use of knowledge of procedures, laws, maps, forms, and records used in real estate mapping.
      • Works with other county and municipal and state offices, attorneys, surveyors as needed.
      • Demonstrate a working knowledge of state laws and county ordinances and policies affecting land management.
      • Attention to detail while maintaining accuracy when preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      RECRUITMENT STANDARDS

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

      • Considerable knowledge of tax mapping principles and practices.
      • Possess an understanding of digital tax mapping, with knowledge of ArcGIS.
      • Knowledge of the MS Windows Office suite.
      • Demonstrate the ability to interpret property deeds and other pertinent documents.
      • Gain understanding of computer and COGO software.
      • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
      • Ability to comprehend legal documents, such as deeds and plats.

      Minimum Qualifications

      Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Geography or closely related field; OR an Associates degree in a closely related field and two years of direct experience editing data within a modern GIS or coordinate geometry (COGO) software system.

      An understanding of computers and experience with ArcGIS and COGO software is desired.

      Working Conditions:

      Normal office environment primarily involving sitting, standing, bending, walking, and operating office machinery, and computers. There is little or no exposure to hazardous environmental conditions.

      May Require Driving

      This position may require driving whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business such as but not limited to attending conferences, meetings, or any other county related functions. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver’s license and that the driving record is compatible with the county’s driving criteria.

      If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County’s vehicle use policy.


      Special Note: Candidates must reside within a two-hour driving radius of Guilford County to be considered for employment.
