- Oversees and manages the preparation and review of the Company's timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end tax provisions (under ASC 740) and applicable financial statement tax disclosures.
- Manages the tax requirements for financial forecasting and strategic planning.
- Proactively monitors and communicates existing and emerging tax laws, legislation and rulings, GAAP, and SEC regulations; research, analyze, and quantify any impact to company’s financial statements.
- Identifies, researches, quantifies, and effectively communicates tax accounting treatment for tax provision and planning strategies for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Compiles and reviews responses to inquiries from internal and external auditors.
- Continuously seeks to improve tax processes, identifying and leading process improvements through use of technology and innovation.
- Works in a collaborative team environment, managing and developing staff through effective and timely supervision, training, performance management and appraisal.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting or related field, required.
- Master's Degree in tax or accounting, preferred.
- 10+ years experience (including 2+ years in leadership role) of progressive experience in corporate tax; preferably with a large CPA firm or large corporate tax department, required.
- Requires strong, in-depth knowledge of tax accounting (ASC 740). Required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment while managing multiple priorities and shifting deadlines. Required
- Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Required
- Requires strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel. Preferred
- Knowledge of OneSource Tax Provision and data analytics tools desirable. Preferred
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
- We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.
- CPA license, preferred.

Primary Purpose:
This position in Sempra's corporate tax group will be instrumental in the effective operation of the organization and will assist leading the tax accounting team. In general, the Tax Manager will lead and provide day to day direction of staff and be responsible for the overall management of all areas of income tax accounting, including the completion of filing requirements and financial statement tax disclosures on a timely and accurate basis for the regulated and unregulated businesses, directing staff to respond to tax and/or financial statement audits of the company and its subsidiaries, and analyzing and quantifying any tax impact to the company of current tax law and proposed tax legislation.
