- Perform or manage complex criminal investigations in the fields of air, water, or waste pollution and TCEQ program fraud.
- Plan, conduct, and coordinate investigations, including interviewing potential witnesses and defendants, conduct surveillance of illegal activities, examine business activities to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance, coordinate with local law enforcement, and prepare search warrants as needed.
- Evaluate and screen alleged violations of laws, rules, and regulations.
- Evaluate, analyze, summarize, and document investigative findings and recommend actions. As appropriate, develop and prepare case and present evidence to prosecutor or in court.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, basic or natural science, or environmental studies.
- Experience conducting inspections and/or investigations.

This position is a member of our Office of Legal Division.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Through the Environmental Crimes Section, it investigates and gathers evidence on environmental crimes for prosecution in state and federal courts.
You would use your skills and experience to:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field generally preferred, but not required; plus, five years of full-time experience in environmental activities.
OR
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the degrees listed above, plus four years of the required experience.
OR
A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in the degrees listed above, plus three years of the required experience.
OR
Nine years of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities.
Career Ladder Progression
Three years of full-time TCEQ experience as an Environmental Investigator III.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES
This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Natural Resources Specialist IV state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in Environmental Investigator IV series.
