      Program Specialist I

      This position performs routine (journey level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Work involves planning, developing, and implementing the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) Texas Fire Incident Reporting System (TEXFIRS) program, presenting training workshops, webinars and providing consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, community organizations, and the public. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

      This position:

      · Provide support (processing and verifying data) to the TEXFIRS program.

      · Provide systems administration support of Texas fire incident data.

      · Assists with communications with US Fire Administration (USFA) staff, other state program managers, software vendors, and Texas fire departments concerning TEXFIRS, National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS), or National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS)-FEMA program issues and updates.

      · Collects, cleans, and queries data using standard applications, methods, and techniques.

      · Queries data and produce summary reports in response to requests for information, including preparing annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly reports.

      · Assists with the release and update of TEXFIRS data or information through SFMO’s website.

      · Assists with the performance plan for improved TEXFIRS outreach communications with Texas fire departments.

      · Assists with preparing and maintaining TEXFIRS program training materials.

      · Present TEXFIRS training workshops, webinars, and meetings.

      · Assists with writing and/or updating procedures as they pertain to the TEXFIRS program.

      · Performs other duties as assigned.

      This position requires:

      · Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in a field relative to assignment.

      · One year experience in administrative support or technical program assistance work.

      · Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

      Additional job details:

      This position requires regular work attendance. The position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. If eligible, the employee must have a secure, dedicated workspace with reliable broadband internet service. The ideal candidate must be available for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours.

      · This position requires the demonstrated ability to:
