      CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION:

      The Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston, Maine has a current vacancy for a Teacher BS. This position is open to current employees and all outside applicants.

      JOB DESCRIPTION:

      This is a year-round, 236-day position. The primary purpose of the position is to teach Adult Basic Education, HiSET preparation courses, technology, academic subjects, and support residents in college programming at Mountain View Correctional Facility. Responsibilities include testing students, developing curricula and educational plans, instructing classes and evaluating student progress to help them prepare for educational or career pathways upon release.

      ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (Include but are not limited to the following.)

      • Evaluates student academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
      • Maintains student discipline through adherence to accepted policies, and regulations.
      • Assists students in the development of desirable work habits, attitudes, and skills.
      • Prepares lesson plans in accordance with curriculum.
      • Meets with and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
      • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
      • Creates a classroom/career area environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
      • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
      • Supervising College Education and Computer Work

      REQUIREMENTS:

      • To be successful in this position you will need to have knowledge and abilities in the following areas:
      • Knowledge of department functions, objectives, policies, and programs.
      • Knowledge of curriculum development, classroom instruction, and educational planning.
      • Ability to teach Math at the middle school or secondary school level along with general education courses.
      • Ability to assess student needs and develop/modify instruction as necessary.
      • Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team.
      • Ability to provide necessary accommodation and modifications for growth and success of all students.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

      A bachelor’s degree in education or related field.

      LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

      Maine Teacher's Certificate for appropriate subject and/or grade(s) as issued by the Department of Education.

      PREFERENCE will be given to applicants who have an Adult Ed 100 Certificate
