      Summary

      The Work-Based Learning Program is designed to assist in providing a highly trained, technologically sophisticated and career oriented young work force. This is accomplished by developing partnerships between business, industry, students, parents, school systems, coordinators, and post-secondary institutions which will lead the participating student into meaningful careers. The Work-Based Learning Coordinator (WBL) supervises and coordinates students involved in the Work-Based Learning Program. The incumbent in this position serves as a liaison between the schools and employers and builds partnerships with businesses and organizations to provide quality work-based learning opportunities for students.

      Essential Duties

      • Supervises and coordinates students off campus in cooperative education, internships, job shadowing, services learning, and other work-based learning programs
      • Serves as a liaison between schools and employers in the Fulton County BOE area
      • Recruits new businesses and organizations to provide quality work-based learning opportunities for students
      • Provides community-based instruction and projects based on program guidelines and requirements
      • Assists in the creation of a strong support structure and partnerships between local employers, secondary schools, and technical schools, colleges and certified training programs
      • Provides assistance in the articulation of programs of study between high schools and post-secondary institutions
      • Creates a system that is industry driven where employers and their representatives help set occupational skills standards, collaborate on curriculum, provide work experience and work place mentors for students, and certify mastery of skills leading to the award of a skill certificate
      • Focuses on student’s learning about “many aspects” of a broad industry cluster rather than mastering a narrow set of occupational skills
      • Provides leadership opportunities for students by assisting the Advisors of school-based Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO)
      • Manages and maintains program facilities and equipment
      • Adheres to all state guidelines required for the implementation of a successful program
      • Travels to job sites and evaluates students
      • Communicates responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, school and county leadership
      • Accounts for student attendance and punctuality
      • Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures
      • Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities
      • Attends school and District-level professional learning activities as directed
      • Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent
      • Seeks and maintains professional learning opportunities through State endorsed professional organizations. i.e., ACTE, GACTE.
      • Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications
      • Integrates appropriate technology into classroom instruction
      • Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale
      • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

      Required Education

      Associates degree or higher from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution required

      Certification/Licensure

      Option 1: Must hold a Clear and renewable GaPSC Certification in any teaching field for 6-12 and hold a Work-Based Learning Endorsement as described by GaPSC Rule 505-3-.106
      Option 2: Must hold a Clear and renewable GaPSC Certification in any CTAE field and enrollment/completion of the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Basic Training, Part A offered in June and Part B offered in January.
      Attend/complete a WBL Refresher course every 5 years per the State School Board Rule 160-4-3-.14

      Experience Qualifications

      Minimum of 2 years of occupational work experience in the field required.

      Working Conditions

      • Travel between potential and/or permanent employer job sites
      • Travel between home school and employer job sites
      • School/External Job Sites (indoor or outdoor)

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to lift and carry 30-50 pounds with assistance
    • Ability to push or pull a maximum of 50 pounds
    • May require stooping or crouching
