      Primary Purpose:

      To provide and coordinate an approved schoolwide enrichment educational program that fosters self-directed learning, thinking skills, research, communication skills, individuality and creativity in identified gifted and talented students at designated a campus.

      This position provides direct instruction for designated gifted and talented students, as well as planned, purposeful enrichment opportunities for all students, conducts professional development, and collaborates with teachers to provide guidance and expertise in best practices for supporting gifted learners and high achievers.

      Qualifications:

      Education/Certification:

      Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university/college

      Valid teaching certificate for the appropriate grade level/content area

      Classroom experience teaching Gifted and Talented students (required)

      30 hours of Level 1 Training in the area of Gifted and Talented instruction (required)

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      • Strong knowledge of effective instructional practices and interventions for GT students
      • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
      • Working knowledge of the requirements in the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students regarding instruction and assessment of Gifted and Talented Students

      Experience:

      Three years teaching experience

      Essential Job Functions:

      • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the needs of GT students
      • Work with classroom teachers on professional development for improving instruction for Gifted and Talented students as well as high achievers
      • Collaborate with district Enrichment Specialists and the Coordinator of GT to provide districtwide enrichment opportunities
      • Collaborate with District and campus personnel to ensure that all instructional, assessment, and professional development responsibilities are completed as required under the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted and Talented Students
      • Conduct annual identification assessments as required by State and District Plans
      • Facilitate campus Admissions Review Exit Committee (ARE) meetings
      • Ensure the accuracy, maintenance, and completion of student GT records (physical and digital)
      • Ensure the accuracy, maintenance, and completion of student assessment records (physical and digital)
      • Compile pertinent data as needed for campus, District, and State reports
      • Provide ongoing and regular communication with building principals, teachers, and parents regarding classroom activities and student progress
      • Work collaboratively with special education teachers to meet the needs and determine appropriate assessments and targets for Twice Exceptional Gifted and Talented students
      • Plan, implement, and identify students for enrichment classes based on campus and district criteria
      • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
      • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
      • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
      • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
      • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
      • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
      • Demonstration of the ability to get along with people in present assignment
      • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position

The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Predictable and regular attendance expected.
