- Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned
- Student teaching or approved internship or approved Alternative Teacher Certification Program training. Previous teaching experience preferred, knowledge in marching and concert band techniques.

Position Function/Purpose
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Essential Functions
Program Planning
1. Assists with concert bands, soloists, and ensembles, high school marching band, and team teaches at the feeder bands.
2. Assist in establishing performance requirements and enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band, extracurricular performances.
3. Assist in the band’s participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL activities.
4. Assist head director in complying with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, UIL rules, and board policy.
5. Assist in the organization and support of band booster club activities.
6. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that the program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
7. Recommend policies to improve program.
Budget and Inventory
8. Assist in the management of cost effective programs.
9. Assist head director in compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
10. Assist in the coordination of fundraising activities and management of funds.
11. Assist in maintaining current inventory of all fixed assets within the department.
12. Assist in the management of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment.
Instruction
13. Assist in the development and implementation of plans for instrumental music program for the feeder bands and show written evidence of preparation as required.
14. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
15. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
16. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.
17. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
18. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Student Management
19. Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
20. Accompany and assist in the supervision of students on all trips.
21. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Communication
22. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
23. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, media, and community members.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and
pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom
