06/27/2024 Work with individual pupils or groups of pupils on learning tasks; providing the teacher with information about pupils which will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning and behavioral experiences;
Assist pupils in the use of available instructional resources, and assisting in the development of instructional materials;
Utilize their own special skills, and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in such areas as: foreign languages, arts, crafts, music and similar subjects;
Assist in related instructional work as required; and assisting students with specific health related activities as appropriate
Local bargaining agreements may address the specific duties of teaching assistants. Such agreements may specify in greater detail the terms and conditions of employment, but they must be consistent with applicable law and regulation.
Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to be productive citizens.
Continually support student growth academically, socially, and emotionally.
Encourage student independence and skill development.
Collaborate with colleagues, district leadership and families to create a classroom culture that supports high expectations for student learning.
Provide regular and effective communication with families to support home/school connections.
Abide by employment provisions provided for in the collective bargaining agreement.
Mandatory reporter for incidents of child abuse, harassment, intimidation, bullying, fights, substance abuse etc.
Observe strict confidentiality regarding student data and information.
Valid Certification required as a Level I, Level II, Level III, or Temporary teaching assistant certificate for the State of New York.
Prior experience in the school setting preferred, but not required.
Successful New York State fingerprint clearance
The Teaching Assistants are directly responsible to the building principal and district leadership.
