What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Teach undergraduate and graduate music education methods, up to four classes per semester
- Interact with local public-school teachers and supervise student teachers
- Advise undergraduate honors theses and master’s theses and research projects
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance while fostering collegial working relationships
- Contribute to the excellence of the academic community through teaching and engagement
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Terminal degree in Music Education from an accredited institution by the date of initial appointment
- A demonstrated record of 3-5 years of public-school experience with expertise in general music pedagogy
- Ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships
- Commitment to regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance
- Experience in teaching methods courses and supervising student teachers
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Specialized training/certifications in general music pedagogies (e.g., Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze)
- Significant experience in university teaching and graduate advising
- Active involvement in professional organizations related to music education
- Understanding of 21st-century classroom technologies and teaching strategies
- Ability to contribute in secondary areas such as music therapy, woodwind, brass, or strings
