The Higher Education Development Centre (HEDC) is an academic department that provides academic development to the University by contributing to the development of University policy on teaching and learning, as well as offering academic support and advice to staff and students. HEDC works in partnership with staff and students to advance, preserve and promote the ideals, knowledge and values of higher education.
We are committed to working closely with iwi and Māori organisations, and mātauraka Māori has become an integral part of teaching and research across the institution. We especially value our relationship with Ngai Tahu, the mana whenua within their takiwā of Te Waipounamu, and the University’s principal Treaty partner.
Te mahi/The role
We are looking for a Teaching Fellow to support the delivery of professional development courses aimed at enhancing academic pedagogy and practices related to staff and students in tertiary settings.
In this role, you will contribute to teaching on culturally responsive practice under the supervision of an academic colleague. Key tasks for this role will include teaching preparation, running tutorials, workshops and assessments related to the implementation of the University Māori Strategic Framework.

Kā pūkeka me kā wheako/Your skills and experience
The successful applicant will have knowledge and experience of teaching and student learning at tertiary level as well as:
• Bachelor’s degree (a PhD would be an advantage).
• A high degree of competency in Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori.
• Knowledge and experience of teaching and student learning at the university level.
• Aptitude for effective teaching at the tertiary level.
• Demonstrate cultural intelligence and collegiality.
• Proven ability to work with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds, from all departments and divisions, and at all levels of the institution.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Pūroko/Further details
This is a part-time (0.4 FTE), permanent position available from July 2023.
