- Lead and direct a team of Electrical Engineers and Technicians to design new products, enhance existing designs, improve production techniques, develop test procedures and focus on project execution.
- Directly supervise Engineers and Technicians on the design team with daily observation, assuring appropriate attendance and helping team members
- Work with Human Resources to address employee relations issues as needed including writing and conducting annual performance evaluations
- Interview and hire new associates as directed by engineering management
- Mentor and train new associates in the arts of Electrical Engineering and product design lifecycle
- Participate in design reviews, assuring proper attendees and proper coverage of topics, imparting lessons learned and good design practices to all that attend
- Create Product Development Plans or provide inputs into cost and effort estimations for new business opportunities, as directed by engineering management
- Ensure the team meets overall design goals in accordance with requirements from internal or external stakeholders
- Ensure the design is partitioned appropriately and assigned to qualified engineers
- Monitor progress of the design team in meeting product requirements, customer requirements and schedule compliance
- Evaluate the Design Engineers’ and Technicians’ ability to design and troubleshoot circuits and products
- Ensure appropriate lab and field testing is performed
- Assist Design Engineers and Technicians in performing tradeoff analysis of different circuit options
- Understand production needs and ensure that engineers are working effectively with the production group
- Facilitate teamwork both inside and outside of Garmin (software, mechanical, sales, QA)
- Serve as customer interface and/or escalation contact for Electrical Design activities within a project
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or related field AND 5 years relevant experience OR a minimum of 10 years relevant experience
- Excellent Academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes and documentation
- Knowledge of Garmin’s product lines and customer needs
- Broad technical knowledge and skills in various areas of Electrical Engineering (e.g., analog, digital, RF, and/or DSP
- Detailed knowledge and experience with test equipment and software tools for electronics design, testing and documentation
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
- Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
- Previous leadership or mentorship experience
- Prior experience with customer and/or supplier interactions in a business-to-business relationship

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Team Leader, Electrical Design Engineering in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and directing a team of Electrical Engineers and Technicians that design and develop electronic components, products, and systems while enhancing existing designs, improving production techniques, developing test procedures, and focusing on project execution.
The automotive electronics market is primed for significant growth, driven by market advancements in consumer connectivity, electric vehicles, and autonomous driving. This role serves our Automotive OEM segment which interacts directly with Automotive manufacturers all over the world to design and produce highly integrated and complex in-cabin electronic systems.
