      Job Summary:

      Leads teams to drive success in 5 key focus areas: Safety, Quality, Service, Performance, and People. Provides direction, goals, development, and feedback to direct reports, resulting in meeting daily production requirements, assignments, safety, equipment operation, and quality control components for the Blue Diamond production facilities. Plans, organizes, staffs; directs, and controls activities that impact operations. Provides mentoring to peers on activities supporting operations. Collaborates with the Department Manager on activities supporting sustainable operations goals and objectives for the site, leading continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting key objectives for the business.

      Job Description:

      ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

      • Leads the execution of Blue Diamond Quality and Sanitation practices.
      • Oversees the updating and maintaining Equipment Cleaning procedures.
      • Drives policy and procedures to reduce customer complaints and enact quality improvements.
      • Promotes quality and resource utilization; drives accountability for bottom-line performance; and communicates performance measures to front-line team members.
      • Collaborates with Quality Manager to ensure proper metrics and processes are established and executed to reduce complaints and hold product.
      • Drives continuous improvement processes and tools across Quality and Sanitation team to deliver consistent reduction in complaints (consumer and customer); delivers first time quality targets.
      • Coaches the quality and sanitation team to deliver quality objectives; applies sound motivational and correctional techniques, including employee counseling and disciplinary actions and recognitions for good work.
      • Ensures proper scheduling to effectively staff the operation as well as appropriately manages time and attendance for the department.
      • Ensures the necessary sanitation requirements to support production needs through proper documentation, chemicals, materials, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
      • Provide leadership, development, and clear direction to the Sanitation team to ensure Sanitation team members can work across all equipment and/or lines.

      MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

      • Bachelor's Degree plus 3 years of plant sanitation or plant quality assurance experience.
      • 3 years of experience leading and directing teams
      • Must be able to work flexible shift work, including off-shift hours and weekends.
      • Must be a proactive team player.
      • Must be able to function effectively as a leader or member in a team environment.
      • Demonstrated leadership ability through discovering and utilizing people's capabilities, recognizing good work, and earning the respect of peers and subordinates.
      • Proficient use of computer and analytical software. Able to develop, interpret and apply specification parameters.
      • Strong technical background and ability to analyze laboratory reports and technical data.
      • Required to keep Quality Assurance documents and specifications current.

      Total minimum number of years of experience required in lieu of degree

      • 7 years of experience executing plant sanitation/ quality assurance initiatives.

      PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

      • Bachelor's Degree in microbiology, food safety, food science, or similar.
      • Experience leading Plant Sanitation/ Quality Assurance Teams.
      • Technical knowledge with food processing equipment, understanding of SPC and associated tools, knowledge, and application of SQF, and quality standards.
      • Must have a clear understanding of Dry Cleaning and Wet Cleaning principles and techniques.
      • Must be able to write and interpret documents clearly and concisely.
      • Must understand operating principles of food processing equipment.
      • Must be computer literate. Knowledge of QC procedures.

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Greater than 15

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      • Must be able to physically move throughout the facility, including climbing multiple flights of stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks and tight access areas. Able to work at a desk for extended periods of time doing analytical work or preparing reports on a computer.

      WORK ENVIRONMENT

      • Must be able to work in a plant environment being exposed to dust, high noise levels, extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations, and wet operating work conditions. Typical conditions may include prolonged sitting, standing and walking. Must be able to work all shifts. Must be able to work any shift based on operational needs. On call 24 hours a day for emergency situations. Weekend work not uncommon.
