Sainsburys Tech - Tech Device Analyst

      Why join us

Joining our team at Sainsbury's means being a part of an exceptionally dynamic and multi-faceted organisation that serves millions of customers daily. With the UK's largest loyalty scheme and cutting-edge digital platforms, we handle an astonishing 1.2 billion transactions each year, offering a vast and intricate dataset that few can match.

We’re one of the UK’s biggest retailers, a multi-brand multi-channel operation, that needs transformative tech to underpin everything we do. And in this area of our business, we’re focused on doing exactly that - enhancing the speed, flexibility and efficiency of our applications by providing best-in-class platforms and tools that colleagues and customers alike love to use.

We’re bold in our thinking and we’re given the space to try new things, creating amazing solutions that enable the business to move faster and better and that enrich the working days of hundreds of thousands of our colleagues. We use cutting-edge tech to allow the build of applications to happen at pace and enable colleagues to be fully productive and collaborative anywhere they need to work, keeping every colleague and customer connected to our technology in a way that works for them.

      What you'll do

As a Tech Device Analyst you will be involved in managing the support of over 150,000 devices that are used by our colleagues and customers to create a great place to work and shop at Sainsbury's. Devices can be anything from an end user computing device, phone, tablets, digital displays, printers, voice solutions or handheld scanners. You’ll be part of a team who are responsible for designing, implementing and improving hardware solutions in our stores, depots and store support centres.

Knowing what devices we have in our estate and how these are being used is critical to how tech supports our 200,000 colleagues. Having the right reports with the right data will allow us to be efficient with our devices, understand trends about what is being used when, and drive better behaviours around looking after these devices to save our company both cost and time. Working within the devices engineering team, you will use the device management tools to help understand these trends. Your findings will be shared both within the engineering team and with our stakeholders in different operating units, so clear and simple communications will be key.

Working with the Technology Managers, desktop support teams, installation services and service teams, the role will also build a stock holding knowledge that supports a critical service, provides assets for new stores as well as new starters and gives us the option to increase capacity should we need it.

Continued review and tuning of how we manage our devices will be done by the analyst to include new device types, new locations and change in use, as well as standardised models for number of device types where applicable.

In additional the analyst will support teams with billing, quotes and various operational reports.

You will be our data master, drive insights and be a device detective that understands the reason for data change. You will share the reports with stakeholders allowing quick and simple decision making.

      Who you are

We use a variety of tech here, so you need to be willing to pick up new tools and techniques. We’d also like you to be yourself – analytical, curious and unafraid to challenge the status quo. You’ll be a role model for best practices, championing a customer centric mindset and a passion for finding creative ways to solve problems, working with different teams and third parties so a proactive, can-do attitude is essential.

Ability to use tech tools including Microsoft office and various reporting systems. Advanced Excel skills are a requirement with proven experience to be provided. Reviewing the data and understanding and documenting trends that support our team to be the best. Using your initiative to identify opportunities to make the way we work simpler. Having a drive to investigate issues further and face into our challenges.

An understanding of finance and operational costs and how this might impact our business, offering up ideas on where we can save money to invest elsewhere.

      Qualifications

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer so you’ll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there’s always the chance to try something new — whether that’s as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we’ll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them:

Starting off with colleague discount, you'll be able to save 10% on your shopping online and instore at Sainsbury's, Argos, TU and Habitat, and we regularly increase the discount to 15% at points during the year. We've also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You'll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 10% of salary, depending on how we perform.

Your wellbeing is important to us too. You'll receive an annual holiday allowance and you can buy up to an additional week's holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, salary advance (where you can access some of your pay before pay day) as well access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. And if you ever need it there is also an employee assistance programme.

Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you which is why we give up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.

      Responsibilities

We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. Think about the scale it takes for us to feed the nation. The level of data, transactions and variety it involves. Then you’ll realise that ours is a modern software engineering environment because it has to be. We’ve made serious investment into a Tech Academy and into setting standards and principles. We iterate, learn, experiment and push ways of working such as Agile, Scrum and XP.
