      The Role

      Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials. This position is intended for the Propulsion Monitoring, Integrated Control, and Automation System (MICA) and Reactor Instrumentation and Control (I&C) team of Department E83 (Reactor Plant Planning Yard).

      The candidate will work with engineers and be responsible for technical writing of component technical manuals and procedures. This will include preparation and/or peer review of technical manual changes, approval letters, and memos. This position may also support software testing including performing verification and validation (V&V). This position regularly communicates with NAVSEA, NNL, and management/engineers via email, phone, in‐person meetings, and/or written correspondence. A strong candidate would have the ability to address different audiences, think critically, take input from multiple individuals, and maintain technical rigor.

      Must Have

      Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 4 year of relevant professional experience

      One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

      • NNS Apprentice School graduate
      • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
      • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
      • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
      • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
      • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

      Nice to Have

      • Experience with technical writing or Naval technical manuals, preferred
      • Naval Nuclear Propulsion experience
      • Knowledge of NAVSEA TM-1
      • Configuration/change management experience
      • Requirements management experience
      • Software testing experience
      • Knowledge management experience
      • Independent problem solver
      • AutoCAD experience is a plus
