      The Engineering Support Services section performs engineering survey operations of infrastructure renewal programs, such as water-main rehabilitation, water/sewer service renewal/replacement, sewer rehabilitation, road reconstruction and related programs and transportation.

      The Major Infrastructure section delivers new infrastructure and stage of good repair projects at Wastewater Treatment Plants, Water Treatment Plants, Pumping Stations, Reservoirs, Solid Waste Transfer Stations and Closed Landfills. The Major Infrastructure Section also delivers major tunneling projects.

      Major Responsibilities:

      • Assists in site inspections and surveys. Takes photos. Delivers notices. Records data.
      • Assists with marking and measuring.
      • Assists with collecting, organizing and presenting of information/field notes/sketches/reports from field investigations and site visits.
      • Enters data on various systems.
      • Assists with maintaining equipment.
      • Assists in performing technical tests.
      • Assists with collecting samples for others to analyze.
      • Assists with indexing, searching, retrieving and filing of records.
      • Answers inquiries, provides general information, takes messages and directs inquiries to appropriate staff to answer questions/handle requests.
      • Travels to various locations.

      Key Qualifications:

      Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

      1. Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function (i.e. Civil or related Engineering program as recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities), or an approved combination of education and experience.
      2. Experience in providing customer service to a broad range of stakeholders by responding to stakeholders' enquiries and dealing directly with staff and the public in person, by phone or email.

      You must also have:

        • General Knowledge of municipal engineering and surveying practices including familiarity with GIS/GPS/CADD/Geomatic/Robotic technologies.
        • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
        • Ability to use various software tools and applications for developing and maintaining databases and spreadsheets.
        • Ability to research, analyze, interpret and present information.
        • Ability to conduct statistical analysis and manipulation of data.
        • Ability to draft and create presentations.
        • Analytical and problem solving skills.
        • Interpersonal skills to work effectively as a member of a team.
        • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite would be an asset.
        • Flexibility to travel to other City work locations when required.
        • A valid Ontario "G" Driver's License would be an asset.
