Job Description
- Req#: 11262
- Build of electrical sub systems: Assemble electrical sub systems as per the schematics. Primarily involves performing signal wiring and power cable interconnections.
- Soldering: Populate PCBs boards through solder/desolder of through-hole and surface mount devices.
- PCB Schematics: Draw PCB schematics using commercial PCB software such as Altium/ORCAD.
- PCB level Testing: Perform basic testing of electrical/electronic systems as per the test procedure.
- Mechanical Assembly: Use hand/power tools in the process of build/assemble of test beds.
- An associate degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience related to designing and fabricating electrical systems.
- Experience with PCB design, build and test.
- Hands on laboratory experience performing testing and analysis is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills to support team building and leadership.
- A strong commitment to scientific integrity is an important requirement.
- Experience with use of mechanical tools is preferred.

Overview:
The Grid Systems Hardware (GSH) Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is actively seeking applicants for an electrical technician to help with conduct of research on power electronic converter systems. The successful candidates should be capable of helping technical professionals in the group in their process of building and testing converter test beds. For this, the candidate is expected to have a good understanding of the requirements of electrical systems, soldering, PCB design and testing, electrical assembly, and basic mechanical fabrication.
