Join our dynamic team of 700 dedicated staff and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of laboratory medicine.As an integral member of the Laboratory team the Technician V (Advanced Laboratory Technician) performs a variety of support functions under a medical directive.In accordance with Laboratory Licensing Regulation 682, under a medical directive, this team member performs laboratory tests that require select technical skill and responsibilities and which require limited scope interpretation, assessment and the exercise of independent judgement and critical appraisal, as defined by the clinical discipline.Duties- Performing receving, aliquoting, centrifugation, separation, and other pre-analytical preparation of laboratory specimens following established policies and procedures.
- Performing limited testing/reporting and analytic tasks in assigned areas using accepted safety practices.
- Participate in all quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement procedures and initiatives required.
- Performing report handling, statistics collection, and selected quality and document control responsibilities.
- Performs cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested in the applicable laboratory area.
- Observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures; adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Qualifications- At minimum, completion of high school + additional program 1 year and over in Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Assistant Diploma (or higher MLP) from an accredited institution or completion of the discipline specific degree, or micro credential or recognized equivalent in the subject of Biochemistry.
- Minimum over 2 years and up to and including 3 years of practical and related experience in Biochemistry; and/or 1 year on-the-job training in Biochemistry.
- Certification from CSMLS (preferred), MLPAO, or agency recognized by the Laboratory Licensing Branch of the Ministry of Health of the Province of Ontario
- Completion of 30 hours of professional continuing education per year
- Computer literate in Windows based applications
- Experience working in a health care environment
- Experience with the Epic HIS/Beaker Application is an asset
- Very good customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills
- Good organizational, time management and prioritization skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good problem solving skills
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently under stress situations
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and operation
- Knowledge is sterile and aseptic conditions as required by assigned area
- Knowledge of medical terminology
