Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell seeks a highly motivated person to join her Office’s Data Privacy & Security Division as a Technologist and Data Scientist. The Division investigates business conduct and brings enforcement actions against in-state and nationwide companies under the Data Breach Notification Law (M.G.L. c. 93H), the Data Security Regulations (201 CMR 17.00), and the Consumer Protection Act (M.G.L. c. 93A). These cases often involve challenging and cutting-edge enforcement initiatives and coordination with other state governments or federal enforcement authorities.
Primary Duties: This position will entail investigating, understanding, explaining, and summarizing complex technological systems relating to investigations and initiatives pursued by Data Privacy & Security Division attorneys, as well as attorneys from other Divisions within the Public Protection & Advocacy Bureau, including the Fair Labor, Civil Rights, Consumer Protection, and Insurance & Financial Services Divisions. While the Technologist/Data Scientist will not be expected to be an expert in all areas, they will be expected to learn and summarize topics such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, algorithmic design, application development, human-computer interaction, data flows, and cybersecurity. The Technologist/Data Scientist will also be expected to perform intermediate-level statistical analysis and data science to assist attorneys in investigations, litigation, and policy. The Technologist/Data Scientist will be expected to effectively communicate and cooperate with other experts who, from time to time, consult on cases and investigations.
Location: This position may be based in any of these Office locations: Boston, Springfield Regional Office, or Worcester Regional Office. Our hybrid model allows some remote workdays for this position.
Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt
Salary: $75,000 to $100,000

Applicants should be highly motivated, intellectually curious, and able to assimilate and condense new and complicated subject areas. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously and efficiently. An interest in data privacy or security and experience analyzing, summarizing, and explaining complicated technological topics are especially valuable. We seek an individual who can work both independently and as part of a team.
