      Technology Support Specialist Apprentice Reports to: Supervisor, Technology Support Services Supervises: None Work Period: 12 Months Unit/Classification: Temporary/Hourly Employee The Technology Support Specialist (TSS) Apprentice serves as a member of the Technology Support Services team within the Technology Operations & Support team at Kent School District. This position’s responsibilities are to provide a full range of support to users on PC computers, software and other hardware in a networked environment. This position supports the voter-approved 2019-2024 Technology Levy in implementing educational enrichment technology systems and programs to provide Kent School District students with a dynamic learning environment, preparing them to compete in the global economy. It is distinguished from the Intern position by more involvement with supporting 1:1 at the high schools. This position also gains entry-level exposure to department projects. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. E = ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Configures, installs, troubleshoots, tests, and maintains PC desktop computers, software, and hardware in a networked environment. (E) Supports the 1 to 1 laptop program at the middle school/high school level working in the tech room. (E) Supports elementary schools through tickets. (E) Performs all other duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience Working towards an IT-related degree in computer science, related engineering fields or having completed a college IT program and looking for work experience. Currently working as a Kent School District Technology Intern or recently completed a Kent School District Technology Internship. Licensing and Certification A+ Certification HP Certification Employment eligibility that may include fingerprints, health (TB), and/or other employment clearance. Must have valid driver’s license and automobile available for use. (Allowable Substitutions: Any combination of experience and training which provide the incumbent/applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work, as determined by the district.) REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must demonstrate a successful level of knowledge, skills and abilities listed below: Knowledge of Windows 10/11, Microsoft Office Applications, and Office 365 Suite. Knowledge of computer installation, imaging, maintenance and software support to perform computer troubleshooting. Ability to work through others to achieve goals. Ability to articulate technical information to non-technical audiences. Ability to install and troubleshoot software programs. Ability to learn new operations, procedures, processes and use of new equipment. Ability to organize, set priorities, and work effectively under pressure. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school and departmental staff. Evaluation: Evaluation responsibilities are assigned to the Supervisor of Technology Support Services or designee. WORKING CONDITIONS:Environment:District office environment and school sites. Demanding timelines. Subject to driving to a variety of locations to conduct work during day and evening hours. Subject to frequent interruptions and extensive contact with students, staff, parents, and the public. Indoor and outdoor environment. Physical demands: Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching, and reaching to retrieve and maintain files and records. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment, computer keyboard, and other equipment necessary to complete the required duties. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone. Visual ability to read, and to prepare/process documents and to monitor various services and personnel. Sitting for extended periods. Standing for extended periods. Walking over rough or uneven surfaces. Climbing, occasional use of stepladders. Physical activity may be required, which could include moderate lifting.
