- Answers incoming emergency assistance calls. Assesses the need and urgency of requests and situations; provides emergency medical instructions; and dispatches emergency response personnel (including law enforcement, fire and emergency medical personnel) to incidents.
- Receives and accurately relays/transcribes information, messages and requests for the Communications Center. Enters data and information into department and state computer databases.
- Maintains knowledge of current emergency communication policies and procedures and state, national and local dispatch codes. Participates in on-going training.
- Answers telephone requests for information.
- Performs emergency warning notifications.
- Performs clerical and general office functions, including minor repair and maintenance (e.g. keyboards, battery replacements, etc.). Maintains logs, records and files, as required.
- Operates teletype equipment; enters warrants, stolen vehicles, missing persons and other information.
- Provides court testimony as required.
- Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- Must obtain certification in Transaction Information for the Management of Enforcements (TIME), Emergency Medical Dispatch and CPR within one (1) year of hire and maintain as required.
- Prior dispatch and responsible fire, emergency medical or law enforcement experience preferred.

- Knowledge of fundamentals and operation of communication/dispatch systems, recordkeeping systems, mapping systems, computer systems and equipment.
- Knowledge of computer operation or applications/software designed for emergency response/law enforcement, information storage, communication and/or retrieval.
- Knowledge of departmental general emergency response functions (e.g. dispatch, communications and department recordkeeping requirements).
- Knowledge of the roles of emergency response personnel.
- Knowledge of County geography.
- Knowledge of standard office equipment.
- Skill in monitoring communications with the public and emergency response personnel in the field to ensure safety and provide communication assistance and support, as needed.
- Skill in operating radio, computer aided dispatch, telecommunication systems and other emergency communications equipment/systems utilized by the department.
- Skill in dispatching emergency response personnel to calls for service.
- Skill in learning, assessing and applying dispatch and records management procedures and routines and equipment appropriately to emergency response situations.
- Skill in reading and interpreting maps.
- Skill in entering criminal warrants, stolen vehicles, missing persons or other information required of the job in accordance with the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) policies and procedures.
- Ability to make appropriate decisions under stressful situations in accordance with established departmental procedures, routines and processes.
- Ability to manage time effectively, manage multiple projects, and complete work within established deadlines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and emergency response personnel.
- Ability to exchange information sufficiently and serve as a liaison to emergency response personnel.
- Ability to follow department and Dunn County policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other staff members, supervisors, and community members in written and verbal form.
- English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.

- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
- Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
- Physical effort will typically require infrequent exertion of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Work continuously requires sitting, speaking, hearing, and using hands to key, handle or feel. Work frequently requires reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
- Work has standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities.
- Work has minimal environmental risks.
- Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, moderate traffic).
- Work is primarily in an office setting.
- Job duties involve dealing with members of the public who may be angry, upset or in distress.
Dunn County's Emergency Management Department is currently recruiting for a Telecommunicator to join their team! This position works 8 hour shifts, is full time, and receives benefits including but not limited to: health insurance, Wisconsin Retirement, dental insurance, and ample vacation and sick time.
The Telecommunicator is responsible for performing a wide variety of duties regarding E911 county-wide communications, as well as other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
