Stretching from the dynamic neighbourhood of Streatham in the South to the iconic landmarks of Waterloo in the North, we are proud to be the 9th largest borough in London. With exceptional schools, lush green spaces including Brockwell Park, cultural gems like the Black Cultural Archives, and world-renowned institutions such as St Thomas's Hospital, Lambeth offers an enriching and dynamic environment.

We are excited to announce an opportunity for an empathetic, driven and dynamic individual to lead Lambeth’s ambitious and innovative new Temporary Accommodation Move On Team.

The Council is embarking on an exciting transformation programme to help people who have been in long term temporary accommodation to move into a settled and stable home. We are looking for passionate and ambitious colleagues to join us on this journey, as we design and deliver services with people at their heart.

      About the Team:

The number of Lambeth households in temporary accommodation has increased rapidly in recent years, as seen across London. We face a shared housing crisis and a limited supply of homes with which to help people. The significant cost of keeping households in temporary accommodation is increasing the pressure on council finances. In addition, we know that living in temporary accommodation for extended periods of time can impact people deeply, from their health and wellbeing to their relationships, education and access to employment.

At Lambeth we are investing in a newly formed Move On Team because we are determined to reverse this trend by supporting people into settled homes which provide them with the certainty and stability that is so needed, and to reduce the costs on the council budget.

      Role overview:

You will lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team following the journey from a first conversation through to finding a new home, to follow-up and aftercare.

This includes Move-On Officers and Temporary Accommodation Visiting Officers who will visit people in their homes, carry out occupancy checks and understand needs, initiate move-on conversations, and oversee offers and sign-ups. The team also includes Lettings Negotiators who will procure private rented accommodation for the team and people they work with.

The successful candidate will be passionate, hard-working and motivated in supporting people out of homelessness. We especially welcome applications from people who have knowledge of homelessness or living in temporary accommodation themselves.

You will be results-driven and will have the ability to work in a fast-paced, highly pressurised environment, to competing priorities, with a strong orientation to achieving targets and KPIs and achieving value for money.

You will have excellent people skills, and an ability to build relationships and see things from others’ perspectives.

You will undertake your work within the legal framework of statutory homelessness and will ensure that the team is compliant with the council’s legal obligations and makes and enforces offers in line with the law.

The successful candidate will be required to hold a valid Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Further information about the Disclosure can be found at www.gov.uk/DBS.
