      Based at the University of Chicago Press, BiblioVault is an ebook distributor, ebookstore, and resource for non-profits. We provide digital print support, online book tools, and ebook fulfillment options for academic publishers, serving 100 university presses and their customers, in the US and worldwide.


      Job Information

      Job Summary:

      The Electronic Publishing Assistant evaluates and enhances book files to make them ready for sale and maintains online record-keeping for the department. The position is based on the University of Chicago’s Hyde Park campus.

      Responsibilities:

      • Assesses, preflights, and grooms book PDFs for short-run digital printing and e bookstores.

      • Makes corrections or repairs to PDFs and other electronic files.

      • Works in related online web apps to organize BiblioVault cases and tickets.

      Competencies:

      • Careful attention to successful completion of all tasks.

      • An awareness of and care for fine details.

      • A willingness to ask questions and offer suggestions.

      • The ability to learn complex procedures and to adapt quickly to evolving processes

      Additional Responsibilities

      Education, Experience, or Certifications:

      Education:

      • High school diploma or GED required.

      • BA/BS or equivalent in education preferred.

      Experience:

      • An average level of experience working with PDF files required

      • Ability to read and understand scholarly material in English required.

      • Communicate clearly in writing and when speaking required.

      • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions required.

      • Ability to work independently and juggle concurrent processes required.

      • Good problem-solving skills required.

      Technical Knowledge or Skills:

      • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Acrobat, Unix commands, HTML, XML, Photoshop, InDesign or similar software required.

      • Some familiarity with both Windows and Mac machines required.

      Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

      • Capable of reading onscreen and of sitting at a workstation for extended periods / full workday.

      • Remote work option is available after training.
