      Bethel School District is seeking qualified applicants for temporary summer help in the Maintenance Department. The Maintenance Department seeks 4 candidates for temporary grounds crew positions.

      Approximate dates of employment are June 19 – September 1, 2025, depending on available work. These positions are 8 hours per day.

      Nature of Work

      Summer Crew performs a limited number of manual tasks such as grounds, irrigation, painting, cleanup, delivery and storage of furniture and supplies, and other maintenance, as directed, related tasks for Bethel School District. Physical strength and agility are required to operate a riding and non-riding lawn mower, hand tools, and to be able to lift and carry heavy objects. A position in this class may also be assigned to help positions in trades and maintenance classifications, when unskilled assistance is needed.

      The nature of assignments will vary depending on the season of the year and involves substantial outside work in a variety of weather conditions. Work involves the safe handling of chemicals and operation of pick-up and delivery trucks, tractor mounted equipment, lawn mowers, and other manual or power tools used in the work.

      Examples of Work

      These duties are illustrative only. Other duties may be assigned.

      • Employs safe and proper operating practices, operates a power hand-mower to cut grass on District grounds; pulls weeds; prunes and trims shrubs; picks up trimmings and leaves.
      • Operates manual and powered hand tools safely and efficiently for various projects.
      • Assists Maintenance staff, as part of a crew, on a variety of unskilled tasks.

      Supervision

      Reports to and works under the close supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. Direction on individual assignments may also be received from positions in trades or maintenance classifications. Work is reviewed periodically for safe and proper completion of individual assignments.

      • Ability to learn to safely operate hand and power hand tools as required by the position.
      • Ability to understand and apply verbal instructions and directions.
      • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
      • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, co-workers, and community members.
      • Ability to learn and apply safe and proper lifting techniques.
      • Possess physical strength and agility sufficient to safely lift and carry heavy objects as required by the position.
      • Ability to maintain an appropriate and legal level of confidentiality regarding students, staff, and other individuals.
      • Ability to maintain regular, predictable and prompt attendance.
      • Ability to follow safe operating procedures and practices when performing maintenance duties.

      Physical Requirements and Working Conditions for Maintenance Positions

      While performing the duties of this job,

      • The employee is regularly required to have vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.
      • The employee is frequently required to use hands and arms to push or pull to operate machinery, equipment and tools.
      • The employee is frequently required to walk and stand for 6 - 7 hours/day.
      • The employee is frequently required to sit on equipment 5 - 7 hours/day.
      • The employee may be required to climb ladders.
      • The employee is required to be able to handle switches, buttons and handles.
      • The employee is required to be able to reach above the head, around the body and to the ground while performing maintenance duties.
      • The employee is often required to lift up to 70 lbs.
      • The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch while performing maintenance duties.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      High school graduate or equivalent.

      Valid Driver's License.

      Any combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work.

      Must be able to pass Oregon Department of Education Fingerprint Background Check.
