      The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of Flatiron, Dragados USA and VINCI, has been selected to construct the $3.3BN Design Build project –the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

      The project scope across a 9 mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2025.

      Responsibilities:

      • Manage a team of temporary works engineers, assigning, organizing and tracking work, ensuring it is delivered on time and to the exact specifications required.
      • Provide constructability and technical design input on temporary works construction designs, coordinating the resolution of problems, reviewing progress, recommending alternatives and advising on project objectives to ensure compliance with contract specifications and regulatory requirements.
      • Evaluate manufacturer’s, equipment, or subcontractor’s proposals, data, and reports for conformance with company and client
      • Oversee the design and drafting of construction methods for temporary works (falsework, shoring, temporary bridges, formwork, slopes, etc.), ensuring completeness and accuracy with regulatory standards and within the contract specifications.
      • Review personal and peer/consultant design elements to optimize project constructability, cost effectiveness and material quantities.
      • Submits designs for peer review or approval review in an accurate and timely manner to avoid construction delays on the project site. Seals personal and team designs following approval review.
      • Completes on-site project oversight of temporary works construction designs to ensure compliance to plans and provide support for project engineering.
      • Conducts forensic analysis for post-construction items to support claims mitigation and dispute resolutions.
      • Prepare and supervise the preparation of written reports and submittals for temporary works designs

      Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural or related Engineering field required and a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience
      • Professional Engineer (PE) required (VA preferred)
      • Proven knowledge of temporary works construction practices and constructability innovation techniques.
      • Proven success with creative, innovative and optimization strategies for construction challenges.
      • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills. Proven interpersonal skills used to defend, clarify and explain construction strategies and designs for all levels across the project.
      • Clear, concise and efficient technical writing skills used in calculation packages.
      • Expert skill at self-prioritization and time-management.
      • Ability to drive, mentor and support a developing engineering team, setting clear expectations to reach departmental and project goals.
      • Proven knowledge of AutoCAD, RIZA suite, LARSA and MathCAD required.
