  POSITION SUMMARY:
  To operate a tractor pulling sod wagons to transport pallets of sod from a sod field to the loading ramp and to operate a forklift to load pallets onto a flatbed trailer.
  RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
  • Operate a tractor and forklift and attach/hook-up implements to farm equipment.
  • Visually inspect equipment and vehicles operated each day and report any deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Operate a forklift to load and unload pallets of sod onto sod wagons and load pallets on to flat bed trailers.
  • Operate the water wagon and jigger pump to manually apply water to loading ramp area for dust control.
  • Keep work area and equipment clean and maintained at all times.
  • Perform all safety requirements as identified by the company safety policies and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Work a ten (10) hour shift, six (6) days per week with extended hours as necessary.
  • Perform mechanical sod stacking duties.
  • Help train new employees.
  • Learn to operate other equipment in the functional area.
  • Attend and participate in weekly, annual and other scheduled safety programs.

  EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
  • No specific education required.
  SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
  • Requires successful completion of a company drug screening.
  • Requires ability to repetitively mount and dismount equipment.
  • Requires ability to understand and follow directions in English or Spanish.
  • Requires minimum vision standards and depth perception.
  • Requires ability to follow directions from a supervisor.
  • Requires ability to interact effectively with co-workers. Requires ability to understand and comply with posted work rules and procedures.
  • Requires ability to accept constructive criticism.
  • Requires ability to properly manage and handle pesticides, fertilizers, fuels, and lubricants.
  SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: (IF APPLICABLE)
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
  PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS (Lifting, Bending, Stretching, etc.)
  • Requires ability to withstand seasonal temperature changes and windy conditions for up to ten (10) hours per day.
  • Requires ability to withstand prolonged exposure to vibrating motions.
  • Requires ability to lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Requires sitting for up to eight (8) hours per day. Requires ability to repetitively mount and dismount equipment.
  WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is performed in various field locations.
  • Work requires exposure to all temperature and weather extremes, moving equipment, wetness, dust, fumes, and require walking on soft muck and hard and uneven surfaces.
  ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
  Must be a team player who is willing to cooperate with others.
  Must be able to accept corrective criticism from supervisor.
  Must be willing to take on a variety of assignments as assigned by management on an as-needed basis within the department and within other areas of King Ranch if necessary.
