      Salary: £42,603 - £54,000

      Location: Peterborough

      Job Summary

      An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Proving Test Engineer to join our Caterpillar team and have a direct impact on the success of our Internal Machine Reliability Group (IMRG) team. As part of our L5/L6 team in Global Engine Development (GED), you will be involved in a variety of engine installation and test projects into off-highway machines and generator sets. Primarily covering mechanical and electrical engine to machine integration, shakedown and test.

      Additional Info:

      The role is based in our Europe Research & Development Centre at the Caterpillar Business Park, Peterborough, UK. There is opportunity to travel within the UK to other Caterpillar facilities and, also to proving grounds within Europe. The role is permanent days, 37 hours a week which is in the main office/workshop based.

      What You Will Do:

      • Manage multiple engine installation projects to collect relevant performance data and report out

      • Contribute to the design of new product and processes

      • Planning and improving testing procedures and operations to make the test more reliable, efficient and cost-effective

      • Monitoring results, machine and process capabilities

      • Collaborate with and support other engineers, managers, technicians, customers, suppliers and represent the company externally

      • Operate a multitude of different off-highway vehicles including but not limited to Hydraulic Excavators, Back-Hoe Loaders, Telehandlers, Track Type Tractors when required

      • Diagnose and repair issues on both engine and machine

      • Work from engineering drawings (electrical, mechanical and hydraulic)

      • Produce electrical looms to interface engine and machine

      What You Have:

      • Good understanding of instrumentation, diesel engine operation, off-highway machine operation and how all the sub-systems interact

      • Knowledge of product testing approaches, previous experience of capturing and analysing test data

      • Knowledge of generator sets and their operation

      • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems related to diesel engine installations

      • Excellent time management skills and ability to work well in a team

      • The role requires good communication skills and interaction with supporting technicians and the engineering customer

      • Mechanical and/or electrical engineering experience

      • Good understanding and working knowledge of software used to interact with electronic engines

      • Engineering degree or relevant experience with increasing responsibility
