      Test Engineer - Materials

      The Musco Research and Development Team is currently seeking a Test Engineer to work from our Oskaloosa office to develop and perform functional testing activities on products in support of an overall goal of minimizing field failures and warranty costs. This person will also assist with material selection and with failure analysis and evaluations of purchased parts, experimental parts, field returns, manufacturing processes, and alternative material options.       What you will do as a Test Engineer:

      • Participate in product design reviews.
      • Gather input from product developers, reliability engineers, and others to determine an appropriate suite of tests based on product functionality and field use environment.
      • Provide feedback to product developers for design corrections and enhancements.
      • Generate and execute test plans, identify and categorize failures, determine root cause, and document results and recommendations.
      • Work with product compliance group and outside test labs to get appropriate third-party certifications (FCC, IEC, etc.).
      • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D (Engineering), Product Management, and Manufacturing on product related issues.
      • Provide guidance to Engineering for material selection and improvements. Participate in technical decisions regarding materials aspects of design.
      • Perform training for other departments as needed.
      • Travel as required, both domestic and international, for outside lab testing, conferences, seminars, etc.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      What you need to be successful:

      • BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Material Science Engineering or relevant technical field.
      • Experience in product testing, materials/failure/reliability analysis in an R&D environment preferred.
      • Experience with development of automated test systems preferred.
      • Experience with electronic products preferred.
      • Experience with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analyses.

          Job Specifications:

          • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, concepts, and practices.
          • Able to perform testing activities using common equipment such as multi-meters, thermocouples, microscopes, etc.
          • Technical knowledge of processes such as soldering, adhesive bonding, conformal coating, wire bonding, crimping, and wiring.
          • Technical knowledge of specimen preparation, including sectioning, mounting, polishing, etc.
          • Good problem-solving skills.
          • Excellent communication skills.
          • Strong attention to detail.
          • Self-directed and self-motivated.
          • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment.
