Job Description

- ensure kit is ready and available as required by the scrub nurse and surgeon
- accurately maintain records as required
- ensure the theatre is clean tidy and fit for purpose
- keep up to date with training on specific equipment required for the surgical specialities
- occasionally provide support to other areas (Recovery, DSU and orthopaedics)
- escort patients from the SAVW to theatres as required.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification/experience
- English & Mathematics at GCSE grade A-C (9-4) or level 2 functional skills
- Care certificate
- Previous experience in a care environment or able to demonstrate a caring nature/ life experience
- Understands the need for strict confidentiality
- Working knowledge of complex care needs of some individuals/families including Safeguarding Children & Adults, Domestic Abuse and Mental Health
- Basic computer/keyboard skills Fine motor skills - for venepuncture, phlebotomy and other clinical tasks
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to prioritise and organise work
- Able to work under instruction, under pressure and as part of a team
- Record keeping competency in handwritten and electronic records
- Able to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity, and to adapt communication style to circumstances
- Able to manage stress in themselves and others
- Able to offer support at times of emotional distress
- Willingness to undertake new skills and training

Job summary
As a Healthcare Support Worker at Torbay Hospital, you'll help patients during their stay with us by making sure they get the quality care & support they deserve.
You will support the General Theatre team to deliver safe and high-quality care to all our patients, being adaptable and responsive in order to provide a service that is tailored to meet the needs of the individual.
We provide a variety of care pathways in General Theatres meaning there are plenty of learning opportunities and further training! #CaretojoinusTSD
Main duties of the job
Working as part of a team to ensure a safe pathway for the patient during there perioperative pathway including preparing theatre, organising kit and supporting the patient.

We work as one team with opportunities to gain experience in other areas. Every job role within the our department is recognised for its importance within the patients surgical pathway.
Our General theatre department comprises of 7 theatres. Orthopaedics has another 3 theatres totalling 10 within the Level 5 unit which we share dependant on surgical speciality needs. We cover a range of surgical specialities and have a dedicated obstetrics theatre as well.

The unit is open Monday-Sunday 24/7 and your shift patterns will generally operate between 08:00 - 18:00 and/or 1230-2130, although this could change subject to service needs and may include a mix of weekends, on calls and/or nights.
