      Job summary

      The service will run Monday to Friday from 0730 to 2000. We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 5 Theatre Practitioner, Nurse or ODP to join our friendly, forward thinking team.

      Our staff are multi skilled and can work in number of the following areas; Anaesthetics, Theatre, Pre op assessment, recovery, Admission/Discharge. Training and support within these areas is provided. This is a fast paced environment with a variety of areas and roles to experience. Every day is different.

      The post holder will complete an orientation period to the clinical area in accordance with the Trust's induction programme. You will also be supported in your on going professional development.

      You will be supported to complete a rotation program with DSU Southlands, Worthing Main Theatres and Southlands Ophthalmology Theatres.

      We welcome applications from those who currently hold full UK NMC or HCPC registration. We cannot at this time consider applicants who do not hold a full registration.

      Main duties of the job

      • To provide clinical support & teaching to all relevant personnel within the specialist area.
      • Work in various clinical areas with pre-operative, intra-operative and post operative patients.
      • To provide information & support to patients before, during and after surgery.
      • Willing to undertake training within the Perioperative setting either anaesthetics, scrub or recovery.
      • To provide & assist with the development of safe & high quality specialist patient care & to work within the guidelines of the Trust Nursing & Midwifery Strategy.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      1. Ensure that accurate records and information systems are maintained.
      2. Ensure the safe control, custody and administration of all drugs within the Unit in accordance with Trust Policies and national legislation.
      3. Assist the Unit manager to ensure that clinical/nursing practices accurately reflect the departmental philosophy.
      4. Inform Senior Practitioner/Unit Manager if there is a change in circumstance, which may affect safe and competent practice.
      5. Assist the Senior Practitioner to actively lead in the development of their specialised areas within the Unit.
      6. Assist the Unit Manager to ensure self and others attend mandatory training sessions as required.
      7. Able to demonstrate relevant IT and keyboard skills to enable electronic data collection and communication.
      8. Effectively communicate with all disciplines, patients/clients and relatives.
      9. Ensure DATIX are completed and acted upon and the manager is informed accordingly.
      10. Assist the Senior Practitioners to effectively lead a multidisciplinary team under pressure in, at times, a highly stressful environment, including emergency situations as required.
      11. Ensure the security of the working area is maintained.
      12. Ensure the provision of a safe working environment for the staff, patients and visitors at all times in line with the Health and Safety at work act.
      13. Attend routine departmental meetings.
      14. Ensure adequate stock levels of consumables are maintained and order equipment and supplies as delegated.
