- Work with supervisors to assist, shadow and/or perform assigned tasks.
- Assist in planning and implementing Special Olympics Forsyth Count programs and special events.
- Engage in recreation and leisure activities such as athletics, games, socials, outings, camps, after-school, special events, and other organization programs.
- Assist with direct leadership in variety of programs.
- Complete special programs; maintain weekly journal; implement goal based activities to strengthen physical, social, emotional and cognitive abilities among participants through recreation.
- Organization and administrative procedures; leadership techniques and skills; weekly meetings.
- Enrolled in four-year accredited university or college studying Therapeutic Recreation
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Completion of minimum 120 hours of fieldwork/practicum
- Valid Driver’s License
Under regular supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in a community-based setting. The intern will assist with providing recreation, leisure, and goal directed programs for individuals with disabilities. The Therapeutic Recreation Intern will help access, plan, implement and evaluate programs with in the Special Populations Unit and other areas of the department. Therapeutic Recreation Interns will complete 14 consecutive weeks, 40 hours per week (560 hours total), between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. including occasional weekends.About the company
