    • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in recreational therapy
    • Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist preferred, but not required
    • Must have a valid driver’s license to travel between HVED programs
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • A genuine liking for working with kids of all abilities
    • Current knowledge of best practices in Therapeutic Recreation
    • Must be energetic and willing to make a difference in children's lives
    • Ability to work as a member of a team
    • Establish a trusting therapeutic relationship with the diverse students in the program
    • Use recreational therapeutic techniques and activities to improve cognitive, physical, emotional, and behavioral wellbeing of students
    • Plan and implement safe and accessible recreation, artistic, instructional, and athletic activities on an independent, group, or team level
    • Develop new programs and activities by researching trends, student and faculty recommendations, and evaluating student needs
    • Observe monitor, and collect data to ensure the quality of programs, events, and classes.
    • Order, inspect, and maintain recreation equipment and materials
    • Maintain records and reports as required, including but not limited to required MA billing
    • All other duties as assigned.
    • School building, office, lifting, sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, keyboarding, etc.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds
    • HVED is looking for a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to serve our Level IV Program in Kellogg, MN and Hokah, MN!

      The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will plan and facilitate therapeutic recreational activities for students within HVED programs to enhance their educational experience.

      Qualifications
      • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in recreational therapy

      Duties and Responsibilities Include (but not limited to )

      This position works primarily out of the SAIL Program in Kellogg, MN.

      Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) provides special education services to 12 School Districts and three Charter Schools within five counties of southeast Minnesota: Fillmore, Houston, Olmsted, Wabasha, and Winona. HVED also has a Setting IV Behavior Program, S tudents A chieving I ntegrated S ervices (SAIL) that provides programming for students in grades K-12 with challenging behaviors currently receiving special education services. Along with the SAIL programs, HVED provides programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a program named for Specialized Programming, Education, Comprehensive Therapy and other Resources for Unique Minds (SPECTRUM). Our SPECTRUM program is located in Hokah. HVED is committed to providing the best services to staff, students, and member districts in southeast Minnesota.
