      Your Opportunity:

      Children's Home Care is a multidisciplinary team with RN, RT, PT, OT and Therapy Assistants who collaborate to deliver services to children from 0 – 18 years old with a wide variety of medical conditions, including children with complex health needs. Under the general supervision of the Home Care Manager and supervising therapist, the Therapy Assistant provides support to the Children's Home Care (CHC) therapists (SLP, OT, and PT) and clients by assisting with coordination and provision of care as deemed appropriate. The incumbent will be working in a constantly changing environment based on providing care in a client's home or community setting. Principles of adult learning must be incorporated while educating parents, caregivers on a variety of health-based issues to enable the client to participate to the best of their ability. Skills and abilities: Assists therapists in ensuring that clients have all necessary supplies and equipment. Assists with ordering and maintaining equipment. Ability to educate and collaborate with family members and caregivers. Assists with provision of direct client care – including creation of resources needed for individual clients.

      Description:

      As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

      Required Qualifications:

      Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

      Additional Required Qualifications:

      1 year recent pediatric experience. Current Therapy Assistant Continuing Competency Program. Knowledge and understanding of the nature of speech language pathology, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy disciplines, rehabilitation process & how it relates to functioning in the pediatric client across the continuum of service delivery. Understanding of normal growth and development in children and the ability to work with children who are non-verbal or have behavioral concerns. Experience with lifts & transfers Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to work independently and a strong understanding of scope of practice. Understanding of the functional, goal directed, client centered rehabilitation approach in the community setting. Well-developed problem-solving skills to facilitate implementation of treatment activities. Able to work in different settings and environments (home environments and weather conditions). Required to bend, pull, lift (25-30lbs), carry& perform variable movements and position changes from sitting on floor to working at desk/computer for extended periods of time. This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license & access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      2 years current therapy assistant practice and 1 recent year in Home Living is preferred. Experience ordering and maintenance of equipment Knowledge of the principles of adult learning is an asset. Experience in implementing exercise and range of motion programs is an asset. Computer knowledge/skills including Meditech, Connect Care and outlook, and strong interpersonal skills is an asset.
