      This is a full-time position providing support to the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP), Tobacco Policy and Control Program (TPCP), including the development of strategic partnerships and projects to reduce the impact of tobacco use on populations targeted by the Tobacco Industry. Please note that this is currently a hybrid position requiring in office work 2 days/week, but will soon require in office work 5/days week as per City of Philadelphia policy.

      The Special Projects Coordinator will accomplish the following:

      • Coordinate and mobilize citywide efforts to reduce tobacco use and strategies to reduce the adverse impact of tobacco use among settings and communities disproportionately impacted by tobacco. This could include, but is not limited to veterans, racial and ethnic minority groups, returning citizens, LGBTQIA+ and Hispanic/Latino communities in Philadelphia. This position will assist with developing, implementing and sustaining efforts with contracted and non-contracted stakeholders to promote tobacco and vape-free policies, tailored tobacco use treatment resources, education and awareness raising activities and generally de-normalizing tobacco and vaping product use.
      • Coordinate with other colleagues in TPCP and CDIP, including the Youth Wellness Coordinator, to collaborate on related work and advance our collective goals
      • Develop and present information to train and educate partnering organizations on tobacco policy and control that align with the mission and values of CDIP.
      • Develop agendas, convene, lead and coordinate all follow-up with new and existing partners.
      • Represent CDIP and the TPCP on appropriate local and state-level networks, working groups, and task forces.
      • Provide foundational research, planning, and development support for new projects and partnerships to advance tobacco prevention and control partnerships and activities.
      • Learn and engage in adopting a health justice framework for all work.
      • Other activities and responsibilities as required.

      Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Description:

      The Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP), within the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH), works to make healthy living easier for residents. CDIP’s work focuses on identifying and addressing health disparities in the city and is guided by a commitment to health justice. We recognize that health is shaped by structural factors including systemic racism and other social, economic, and political forces; thus, we work to change systems, policies, and environments to improve health, rather than focusing exclusively on health promoting behaviors. We take a data driven approach to program and policy design, looking to evidence-based solutions when possible and contributing to building that evidence base with our own research. Chronic disease focus areas include preventing disease related to tobacco, poor nutritional environments, lack of physical activity opportunities, and other known risk factors. Our injury prevention work focuses on the gun violence crisis in Philadelphia. We work collaboratively with partners across the city.

      Required Qualifications:

      • Prior experience working in a public health or related field.
      • Prior experience with project management, education, coalition building, and/or community engagement.
      • Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills and follow-through.
      • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
      • Proven ability to build partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
      • Demonstrated persistence, creativity, integrity, and humility.
      • Experience and/or knowledge of the following a plus: Evidence-based tobacco control and prevention strategies, historically marginalized populations, social and economic determinants of health, chronic disease prevention strategies, government systems, Philadelphia history.
      • Bachelor’s degree required. MPH preferred.
      • OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Public Health Department

      Salary Range:

      • The salary range for this position is approximately $61,500 to $63,500 annually depending upon experience.
