Job Description

- Design, quote and procure cost effective mold tools and equipment based on existing and new tooling and technology, prior product/tool history, existing molding methods, and materials and processes.
- Participate in new product quoting process, recommending new tools, equipment, and processes for the production of potential new molded rubber products.
- Seek, recommend, and implement improvement opportunities for existing production tooling to improve quality, reduce scrap, improve productivity.
- Ensure that operator safety and ergonomics are considered when designing new mold tooling, equipment, and processes.
- Create and maintain well-documented FNGP tool/equipment drawings whether designed in-house or at an outside supplier, and other documentation in accordance with the applicable Quality Plan (e.g. TS-16949 / QS-9000).
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with outside tooling/equipment suppliers; review, approve and maintain outside tool/equipment designs/drawings.
- Participate in the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, with emphasis on the transition from PPAP to flawless production launch.
- Accepts and completes engineering related projects and tasks, as assigned.
- Maintain adherence to Company policies, safety/ergonomic standards, and good housekeeping practices.
- Understand and implement the health, safety, and environmental policies and to integrate health, safety, and environmental considerations into daily work activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology or related field required.
- Experience with CAD is required, preferably Siemens NX (Unigraphics); ability to independently create accurate 3D solid models and fully dimensioned 2D drawings.
- Ability to read, understand, and create engineering drawings is required, with a working knowledge of geometric tolerancing and dimensioning (GD&T).
- Experience with rubber/plastics mold-tooling design is highly desired.
- Demonstrated analytical skills and mechanical aptitude are required.
- Knowledge of tool-machining processes is required.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA).
- Experience in advanced engineering/statistical problem-solving methods is desired, including Six Sigma experience and certification.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing methods is desired, including certification is desired.
- Experience in the use of personal computers is required – standard office systems such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail.
- Must exhibit good communication, project management, interpersonal skills, and ability to manage his/her own priorities and workload while working in a team environment.
