    • Supervise the operations of the buildings, grounds, and other school property for the health, safety, and well-being of pupils, teachers, and patrons.

    • Report needed major building and equipment repairs to the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or their designee, as needed.

    • Direct, supervise, and evaluate the instructional and school counselor programs.

    • Responsible for creating and implementing the master schedule for all assigned personnel.

    • Prepare all reports and maintain such records as required by school law, regulation, or request of the Superintendent.

    • Assist to organize, administer, and direct all student activities (or assign a designee) for the assigned school building.

    • Responsible for the registration, assignment, promotion, or retention of all students assigned within the building, and report to the Superintendent all retained or conditioned students.

    • Responsible for managing the requisition of supplies, textbooks, equipment, and other material necessary for the operation of the building through the office of the Superintendent.

    • Prepare and submit the building’s budgetary requests and monitor expenditure of funds.

    • Responsible for keeping the Superintendent informed concerning all activities in his/her respective building(s) and for recommending building needs to the Superintendent for preparation of annual appropriations.

    • Follow district policies regarding discipline, including suspension and expulsion of students, and submit documentation of such action to the office of the Superintendent.

    • Responsible for using the district established procedure for the withdrawal of students from his/her building, including completing all forms and reports required by the Superintendent and the County Office of Education.

    • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary according to Board policy and according to due process to the rights of the students by establishing guides for proper student conduct and by maintaining student discipline.

    • In conjunction with the staff, evaluate the curriculum, seek improvement of educational programs, and make an annual report with recommendations to the Superintendent.

    • Complete classroom visits, periodically review teachers’ lesson plans, and have follow-up conferences with recommendations to the Superintendent.

    • Foster the professional and personal growth of all teachers through in-service programs and professional days including in-services, workshops, orientation programs, etc. as offered through various educational resources.

    • Perform all duties and responsibilities as the instructional leader by keeping current with best educational practices and pedagogy.

    • Direct and coordinate the support staff (classified) assigned to the building.

    • Responsible for the general supervision of the grounds and building.

    • Enforce the Ohio Revised Code that establishes policy, age, and immunization requirements for students and staff.

    • Utilize County Office of Education pupil personnel staff services, when necessary (i.e. attendance officer, juvenile court, local agencies, etc.)

    • Maintain adequate records of all students within the building.

    • Inform the Superintendent when absent from the building and appoint a member of the administrative team or designee to be in charge during his/her absence; in doing so, assume full responsibility for any result.

    • Engage stakeholders in collaborating and creating vision for the building.

    • Responsible for scheduling faculty/staff meetings for his/her building.

    • Supervise the recording and reporting of all building employee sick leave, personal leave, professional leave, vacation leave, and work days, in addition to general attendance of building staff, with support from the Human Resources department.

    • Responsible for following the district interviewing protocol for the hiring of prospective staff members and to recommend interviewee’s employment or non-employment to the Superintendent.

    • Attend as many school and district sponsored functions as possible.

    • Schedule and monitor assemblies for the general instruction of the student population.

    • Supervise custodians in cooperation with the Maintenance Supervisor and Executive Director of Operations.

    • Supervise the health service program for his/her building in cooperation with the Health Aide Supervisor.

    • Responsible for general lunchroom operation and supervision.

    • Establish and work cooperatively with the building parent organization to support students and staff.

    • Create and implement fundraising opportunities to support the students and staff.

    • Work cooperatively with the Transportation Department to ensure the safe arrival of students to and from school.

    • Participate as the district representative for special education meetings and also coordinate with intervention specialists, general education teachers, school psychologist, school counselor, and families in the event a disability is suspected.

    • Develop plans for safeguarding equipment and property.

    • Enforce the observance of school laws.

    • Develop and implement an Emergency Operations Plan for the building following the guidelines as set forth in the Planning Guide for Ohio Schools,” published by the Ohio Department of Education, 1973 (fire drills, tornado drills, safety procedures, etc.)

    • Follow district procedures regarding crisis including but not limited to threat assessments and suicide ideation in cooperation with the Director of Student Services.

    • Maintain good public relations with the community (pupil welfare and school-pupil relationship).

    • Notify the office of the Superintendent of any student whose parents reside outside the district so that status may be determined in regard to tuition or continued enrollment.

      General Summary: The Principal, Elementary School implements the administration, supervision, and evaluation of all programs and activities, curricular and co-curricular, within his/her building in accordance with Board of Education policy and Ohio School Law and Standards. The Principal supports assigned personnel; receives, distributes, and communicates information to satisfy school, district, and state education policies; maintains safety within the school environment; coordinates school activities, as assigned; assists students to modify inappropriate behavior and develop successful interpersonal skills; and communicates information to staff, the Superintendent, and the public, as necessary. The Principal evaluates both licensed and appropriate classified staff.
