      Minimum Knowledge and Experience:

      • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent credentials with a combination of relevant work experience and training
      • Demonstrates experience working in a safety sensitive environment coupled with ability to trouble shoot and effectively communicate with internal and external key stakeholders
      • Proven ability to successfully complete a rigorous training program to uphold necessary qualifications as it relates to FRA regulations and certifications as it pertains to railroad safety
      • Work experience exhibiting responsibility, initiative, and other leadership characteristics
      • Prior railroad experience and knowledge specific to the transportation industry or similar field preferred

      Skills:

      • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of disciplines and levels including internally and externally while working independently or in a team setting
      • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and vendors
      • Experience with making proper independent judgments in response to emergency and non-emergency situations
      • Practical experience or working knowledge of standard operating procedures and ability to interpret, follow and implement written procedures

      Key Accountabilities (Essential Job Duties):

      • Demonstrates understanding and adheres to the KCS principles of Employee Engagement, Operational Excellence, Safety & Security, and Economic Performance
      • Maintains records related to the protection of railroad workers
      • Safely and efficiently facilitates train movements within the commuter rail maintenance facility
      • Monitors radio communication for railroad and marine traffic
      • Operates a railroad draw bridge spanning the Charles River, Boston, MA
      • Follows FRA regulations pertaining to recording keeping
      • Complies with all related safety rules and procedures and reports all hazards as required
      • Attends and participate in all assigned training
      • Completes other duties as assigned during emergencies

      Requirements:

      • A valid driver’s license is required to successfully travel throughout the Commuter Rail network and locations as assigned

      Working Conditions (including Physical Demands):

      • Position is subject to on-call work (Spare board)
      • Works in a 24/7/365 environment at two Tower locations
      • Ability to pick up items weighing approximately 50 pounds on a single lift regularly
      • Requires use of both hands to push/pull, lift, handle, feel and/ or reach
      • Works in confined spaces
      • This is a unionized position
      • Noise Level - Moderate
      • Shift Work-Be able to work all shifts, all days
      • On-call-As per Collective Bargaining Agreement
      • Teamwork - Work as part of the Transportation team
