- Conduct inspections on mechanical and electrical locksets on campus, as well as CCTV, electrified access control, and intrusion detection system hardware, and determine maintenance needs.
- Plans new installation, alterations and testing of CCTV, electrified access control, and intrusion detection systems. Estimate materials and labor required to complete project.
- Use and maintain electrical and carpentry tools, machines, equipment and materials used for job related tasks.
- Understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. Resolve most job-related problems that may arise.
- Fabricate various control panels, locking hardware and associate wiring. Make necessary adjustments and inspect complete work.
- Provide other duties as assigned to include reports to management as necessary.
!*!Required Qualifications: Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Four years of full-time experience under a skilled journey-level Electrician, which would provide training equivalent to that given apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training gained by completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute, may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis. The Trades Generalist performs journey level work in Electrical and semi skilled level work in Carpentry. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. (***Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes”). Must have the ability to perform the physical tasks of the position, such as bending, lifting, stretching and climbing. Must have the ability to work from a ladder, scaffolding or man lift over 10 feet in height.
Preferred Qualifications: Electrician experience to include two years experience in the installation and/or repair of card access doors, alarm systems, CCTV systems, and parking meter repairs and semi-skilled work in the carpentry trade. Knowledge of low voltage electric applications for parking meters, access control, alarm systems and closed circuit television (CCTV) systems. One year experience doing access control work. Experience in parking gate repairs. Ability to diagnose problems with parking meters, gate arms, access control hardware, alarm systems and CCTV systems. Lock shop experience preferred.
Brief Description of Duties: The primary function for this position is to perform all electronic physical security related duties including conducting inspections, determining maintenance needs, installing, repairing, etc. for Access Control. This position includes both electrical and the secondary trade is carpentry.
Special Notes: These are full-time positions, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.

Seniority for promotion is the length of service in the Operational Services Bargaining Unit. Seniority applies to vacant non-competitive class positions in salary grades higher than the applicants grade.
