- Trainee starting hourly rate of $43.20 ($89,856 pa) increasing to $48.69 ($101,275 pa) upon successful completion of training

Train Control is the “brain” of KiwiRail – controlling the movement of freight, scenic and commuter trains across the country.
There is significant growth in the Passenger Metro Rail Services in Wellington and Auckland as well as increased demand for access to our rail network for key maintenance and infrastructure projects. We are a busy and dynamic operation with our team of Train Controllers working together to keep the wheels in motion and ensure all operations and activities on the rail corridor are undertaken with safety being the key priority.
To build our resilience we have recently gone through a period of transformational change in the way we manage our Train Control operation.
We have moved from one national centre in Wellington to two new purpose-built modern, state of the art Train Control Centre’s – one in Wallaceville and one in Ellerslie. This is an exciting time to join our team and start your career as a Train Controller with a new and developing crew. We will take you on the learning journey and equip you with the knowledge and skills you will need in this highly respected and important role.
Being a 24/7 operation will mean you will be required to work shift work on a rotating roster. You may have experience working shift patterns and enjoy the lifestyle shiftwork offers.
