Job summary
Opportunities exist in our West Wales Division.
Assistant Practitioners undertake mammography examinations for breast screening and related procedures in the healthcare environment, under the supervision of qualified Diagnostic Radiographers. Assistant Practitioners also undertake administration duties to facilitate the workflow throughout the department which requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
The trainee position offers a training course over the course of a year. Once qualified, the qualified Assistant Practitioner will have acquired practical skills in specified areas of mammography and the right to work in conjunction with a Radiographer on the mobile screening units and in our standing unit. The job will include travelling to and working in mobile units, with some requirement to stay overnight.
Band 3 while training,Band 4 when qualified.
Main duties of the job
The office holder will gain practical skills in clearly specified areas of mammography as well as ensuring a theoretical knowledge base, which is essential to ensure safe practice.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop clinical skills that will enable the successful candidate to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of screening mammography.
The practical element of the training will be in the workplace. However, the post's dealer will be required to undertake a full year of study towards the Welsh Open Level 4 Diploma for Assistant Practitioners in Mammography Screening (Wales).
Applicants, who require training, will need to commit to working as a mammographer at BTW for at least two years after qualifying or there will be a requirement to pay back a portion of the training fees.
The role requires the successful candidate to have a caring nature with excellent teamwork and communication skills. The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner to meet the needs of the service is essential.
