  Applications are invited from Trainee Biomedical Scientists to work in the department of Cellular Pathology, of the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. Candidates must:

  • Hold an accredited IBMS degree
  • Complete the IBMS certificate of achievement portfolio and achieve HCPC registration within 12 months

  Candidates that will be completing the IBMS registration portfolio in house will be salaried at band 4 rate.

  We will accept applications from trainee candidates with a IBMS Registration Portfolio and no Cellular Pathology experience. These candidates will be salaried at band 4 rate until fully trained in cellular pathology techniques (within 12 Months)

  The Cellular Pathology department at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust has a workload of 35,000 requests per annum, 3000 non Gynae and 1000 Andrology samples. The department carries out a full range of diagnostic testing including immunocytochemistry.

  We are looking for enthusiastic; self-motivated individuals with good communication skills who has the ability to work as a team member. You will be required to maintain a high degree of professional standards and adherence to patient confidentiality is paramount.

  The candidate will be encouraged to help develop the Cellular Pathology department to offer a cost effective and comprehensive service befitting a major provider of pathology services.

  Main duties of the job

  To carry out the scientific and technical work of the Cellular Pathology department following defined protocols.

  To carry out a broad range of scientific and technical work within the department as required by senior biomedical staff and working within Health Professions Council standards of proficiency for Biomedical Scientists.

  To take part in any training required to maintain an up to date knowledge of all equipment and techniques used in areas in which they work.

  To help to ensure that all work is carried out to the standards necessary for UKAS/ISO Accreditation.

  Required to operate sophisticated, automated laboratory equipment and perform manual and automated techniques.

  Carry out routine maintenance and operation of equipment for the department.

  To communicate effectively with colleagues and other healthcare staff.

  To write departmental and implement Trust wide/departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.

  To provide a high quality and timely service.

  To avoid waste and work in a cost effective way at all times.

  To identify problems within the areas that they are working and report them to their manager.
