      Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Unaccredited Trainee to join the Paediatric Team at RPA Hospital.

      What you will be doing:

      This position is open to qualified candidates who are interested in pursuing training in paediatrics. You will be involved in the paediatric inpatient and ambulatory care services, as well as the outpatient service with appropriate degrees of independence. The position offers the opportunity to enhance your skills across the breadth of general paediatrics with support provided for quality improvement and other research activities. Candidates for this position will engage in self-directed as well as work-directed learning of relevant principles and material.

      This role has a focus on excellence in teaching, mentoring the trainee towards consultancy and supporting trainee professional development and well-being.

      The Department of Paediatrics, RPA Hospital:

      RPA is the principal teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and one of Australia’s leading hospitals, providing an extensive range of diagnostic and treatment facilities. Over 12,000 children present to RPA ED each year and approximately 1600 are admitted with a range of acute and chronic medical and surgical problems. The Paediatric Department provides a broad range of services, including a busy 10-bed inpatient ward, a hospital in the home program, daily acute review clinics, general paediatric outpatient clinics and medical support to the Parent Baby Unit and RPAVirtual, Australia’s first virtual hospital. There is a focus on training, innovation and quality improvement.

      The Paediatric Department incorporates a broad multidisciplinary team managing inpatients and outpatients. The successful applicant will need to be able to work efficiently within the team, and communicate well with other professionals within RPA Hospital and the community.

      A myriad of educational opportunities are provided including a daily teaching program, access to sub-specialty clinics and education provided by the RPA NICU and the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network. Trainees will participate in the supervision and education of medical students from the University of Sydney.

      Where you will be working:

      Trainees will work at RPA Hospital across the Children’s Ward, Emergency Department, Parent Baby Unit (inpatient perinatal mental health facility) and provide paediatric medical support to RPAVirtual, Australia’s first virtual hospital. The department collaborates closely with the NICU at RPA, the Paediatric Department at Canterbury Hospital, Child and Family Health Services and Community Paediatrics in SLHD and the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network.

      1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
      2. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency), judgement and expertise.
      3. Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills.
      4. Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
      5. Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education.
      6. Demonstrated professional attitude and flexibility in work role with preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters.
      7. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and the supervision of Junior Medical Officers.
      8. A minimum of 3 years post graduate experience and 1 year experience in paediatrics with demonstrated
        competence in paediatric resuscitation.
