      Develops new training programs for Authorization services being rendered at UCSF Health central, remote and home department locations. Trainer will craft training courses of diverse scope ranging from entry level training for new hires to complex training for specialty areas like surgical authorizations. Trainer must have a versatile command of available training techniques to be able to develop and delivering training, create development pathways, create competency checklist and outline and implement quality assurance
      programs.

      The Authorizations Training and Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for delivering end-user training to new and current UCSF Health FPRMO staff as well as home team practice staff as required. The focus will be to build competencies in the following areas: existing or new authorization workflows from central and home teams, end user use of clinical and business information systems and other computer software applications for the UCSF Health. S/he will also assist in the creation and validation of training tools which support the education of FPRMO and home team managers and staff. Training to include objective measurement of staff competency as well as effectiveness of the training and QA program. S/he will also create and implement a professional development pathway to support staff growth in the FPRMO Central Authorization Unit.

      This position will report to the director or manager of the FPRMO’s Central Authorization Unit. Position must be able to work with Administrative and Clinical leadership across Faculty Practice Services to create, customize and disseminate tool kits for implementation in the practices as common solutions emerge. Responsible for completing monthly quality checks for Central Authorization Unit staff and conducting retraining on standard work as needed. Ability to travel to all UCSF Health locations is required.

      Core responsibilities:

      • Leads the development of educational tools relating to existing and new computer applications, system updates, and other organizational goals and changes.
      • Develops or modifies curriculum, content and/or materials for training programs to meet the needs of end-users.
      • Deliver appropriate level of instruction and competence/evaluations required for each user based on their role, location and other factors.
      • Collaborate with other Subject Matter Experts to ensure delivery of effective, accurate training.
      • Lead training in-person and via electronic mechanisms as outlined by the training needs, location, type of training or quality assurance to be delivered, etc.
      • Develop in-depth knowledge of workflows and processes, and important system functionality supporting the workflows.
      • Apply knowledge of adult learning theory and flexibility in training techniques which reach audiences of varied backgrounds and learning styles.
      • Maintains specialty training programs focused on staff development which result in higher patient, referring provider and staff satisfaction.
      • May participate in the review of authorization errors; will provide resolution of training related issues or errors.

      Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

      For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

      Faculty Practice Management Operations (FPRMO) supports the Revenue Cycle functions of charge capture, coding, centralized authorizations, charge edits and RFI resolution supporting approximately 16 UCSF Health’s clinical departments and over 55 service lines and clinical programs.

      The FPRMO supports over 150,000 authorizations that will grow to half to three quarters of a million authorizations over the next 18 months. Charge generation for the FPRMO is over $3.2 billion dollars and supports all service lines for Adult, Children’s, and Cancer Services for UCSF’s Health’s Faculty practice depending on type of service. The department supports Auth and Coding functions for faculty practicing at local and remote locations. Impact of the work for this unit is felt by all UCSF Health Business Units to include the Faculty Practices, Adult & Pediatrics Units, Ancillary Services, West & East Bay and Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospitals and Clinics.
      • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
      • 3 – 5 years related experience in training creation or delivery.
      • Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work may impact other areas.
      • Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
      • Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong presentation skills.
      • Thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
      • Thorough knowledge of delivering training programs and thorough knowledge of other areas of human resources.
      • Thorough knowledge of current training programs and trends.
      • Strong skills to conduct needs assessment and development of new training courses to meet organizational needs.
      • Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems, i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
      • Strong skills in planning, resourcing and monitoring effective delivery of training.
      • Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and education methodologies.
      • Thorough knowledge of training and development, performance management and workplace learning. Ability to apply knowledge to achieve successful organizational outcomes.
