    • Schedules and facilitates orientation programs for prospective school bus drivers and attendants.
    • Provides classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction and training to Baltimore County Public School bus drivers and attendants.
    • Provides instruction in rules, regulations, policies, and best practices regarding student transportation. Provides safety-related and defensive driving instruction and training.
    • Administers school bus driver observations in accordance with COMAR regulations.
    • Develops instructional and training programs and materials. Provides advice and guidance regarding transportation issues.
    • Serves as permanent member of the Accident Review Committee.

    • Successful completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) instructor coursework required within six months of employment.
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of driving a school bus.
    • Knowledge of the principles and best practices of student transportation.
    • Knowledge of Maryland Vehicle Law and Code of Maryland bylaws.
    • Knowledge of transportation safety issues.
    • Knowledge of training and instructional programs.

      SCHEDULE : Full Time

      DEFINITION :
      Assists in the planning, preparation, and instruction of courses and training for school bus drivers and attendants. Administers the Maryland Motor Vehicle (MVA) skills test to school bus drivers to obtain Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDL). Trains school bus drivers and attendants in the principles and practices of school bus operation, student transportation, and related matters. Develops and implements pre-employment and in-service training programs. Performs other duties as assigned.


      ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
      Education, Training, and Experience:

      PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
      Work requires the operation of school buses, the transportation of students, and travel throughout Baltimore County and the state of Maryland. Work is conducted in classroom, office, and outdoor settings.


      CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
      Persons appointed to this class must possess certification requirements to operate a school bus in the state of Maryland in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and must maintain these certification requirements throughout their employment.

      Possession of a Maryland State Department of Education certification for driver instructor is required within six months of employment. Possession of a Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration certification to administer CDL field tests is required within three months of employment.

      Persons appointed to this class must be physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations and must remain physically qualified to operate such vehicles throughout their employment. Persons holding a commercial driver’s license (CDL) are subject to alcohol and drug testing in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations and Board of Education policy.

      GRADE: Grade 9 on the AFSCME Pay Scale

      SALARY: Hourly rates range from $25.73 - $38.77.

      OTHER COMPENSATION:
